I'm wanting to do a few edits to rp_downtown_v4c_v3. I have tried to contact the editor of the map but to no avail. Any tips on how else to go about it? Will be wanting to use the map on my server.
Mainly want to edit the skybox, clear up a few things and optimize certain areas.
Will also be wanting to edit other little bits aswell.
Any info appreciated

While some people here say rp_downtown is over edited, I say it's a popular map and light to download (this is what the majority of players want) a map that is light and popular to play.
In my opinion, if you can edit a map you can make your own, make a map from scratch with your ideas for a roleplay, using the skybox you want and the 'other little bits' too.
Make a light map to download, keeping a nice layout, design and optimization. I'm sure the players of your server will like it.
Just don't make another version of downtown for it being popular.

Make your own map to suit your needs, and just call it browntown, or clowntown, or something.
Clowtown, sounds like something from a horror movie...
Haha indeed it does, yea took your advice now working on a new map from fresh. Might take a few little bits from downtown as I like the design of a few select buildings. Most likely heavily edit them for RP efficiency. Any suggestions for parts of the map? Got main spawn area just about done. Working in same design idea of with the tunnels.
Why don't you make something original, not basing on someoneelse's work ?
I know it's hard to come with a original idea, but think in some questions from the public of your server.
Like: What they like to do when they are on the server ? Where they come together more often ? What buildings are more popular to have players in it. and etc.
Make a new map based on the data you have on your server. Where you can make the players of your server have fun in a whole new map for roleplay.

Yea i see your point of view. The preference of my player base does matter. They have buildings they use all the time. They will be the ones I use. It's mainly warehouses etc that are popular. Few things that I will be adding should add bit more RP to it. Designing around PHX props. Size of rooms that allow minimal props to secure places. means no more props sticking through walls if you build smart.
What do you guys think about the following;
Park area - Small "play park" (nothing moves just for show) small pond and trees
Public Transport Center (Bus Station and taxi rank area)
Separate prison from the PD (Not a big one but gives a few more jobs.)
Car Repair/sales dealership - cars as world props in the dealership. Signs above with prices and info etc.
What about a ring road around the whole map. Elevated at certain points, with slip roads coming back into the town. This would be more for people to keep inner town driving to a minimum to avoid cars hitting players accidentally/on purpose. Obviously this would not stop car death match. But would minimize it if players used it correctly.

Thankyou, some nice elements in his maps. Got rp_downtown_v4c_v3 VMF now. Thanks a ton guys.
