Water becomes weird in my map... (No leaks, AFAIK)
11 replies, posted
Hi, everyone.
Something is wrong with my map... The water gets some weird reflections when you stand in specific places (looking at the water from different angles)
I can't find any leaks in my map, and I've build the cubemaps as well. The bug appears both with and without cubemaps...
Recorded a quick video showing the "bug": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xYdsbQsmyOI
(Viewing the video in fullscreen somehow makes it a bit brighter. At least on my monitor...)
Please, if you know any possible fixes, or if I should send you the map, tell me!
Have you tried changing the water texture? Some of the textures don't work properly.

Yeah, and unfortunately with same result :(
Is the skybox set up correctly? Sometimes that has something to do with water reflections
Do you have the water at different heights?

I will try to redo the skybox, and see if anything changes...

Yes, I actually do. I will look into that too.

You cannot have two expensive water materials rendered at the same time at different height.
Either make one of them cheap, make them at the same height or make sure they both won't render at the same time.

Thank you. I'll just change the height of one, and try again.
I have a Water_lod_control forcing the the cheap-transition far away. Maybe that's what makes it only bug out from certain angles/spots
Thank you Firegod522 and Zyx!
How come Valve does not fix things like these? I bet it isn't supposed to happen...

yes it is, you're more than welcome to make a game engine yourself which can handle multi-level water reflections.

I thought it was a bug. Now I know why there's a loading screen mid-air in Half-Life 2...
Its just the shader's render texture.
