Recently I am working on a GarrysMod Role Play Map, And i though it Would be a cool Idea if a Train occasionally Traveled though the Map http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j9jpJqDssJ0
Mind that the train would traveling outside the map so it doesn't matter it looks goofy.
Comments Thoughts?, And there is always room To change stuff.
Interesting, but some advice (probably shouldn't listen to me, since it's coming from me, but what the hell.)
1. Try to keep your map to ONE/1 thread if you are going to use one, if you plan on making multiple updates, use the Map Pimpage thread. I made this mistake with my earlier maps, look where I am now.
2. A lot of roleplay maps have trains now, it would seem less generic if you had road bars that went down when the train came by or was near it.
3.You can see under the map on the sidewalk portion of the track
4. The train bell should probably have a source like a megaphone or a bell or something, not out of thin air. If you added those road bars you wouldn't need a source.
5. This isn't really an error, but just out of question, what is with that floating orange box? I know you probably have a reason, but what is it for?
It does look pretty neat and nifty, though

You say that like you're actually a someone now....
You say that like you're actually a someone now....
The only reason that I say that is because I actually use the pimpage thread to do that, I don't want this guy to mess up where I did like that.
I already said "look where I am now"
that means I made the mistake and got me into a huge garbled up mess of a person on this forum. I already admitted that I am and was being an idiot about a lot of things I did/do and that I thought I was mapping king over everyone. I don't think I am anymore, the idiotic things, yes, definently still happen.
And I'm not going to deny, I still don't think I'm a good mapper
I just don't like admitting that I suck, but well, I'll just face it. Yes, I guess I suck at mapping.
Chaingunfighter, When your not liked, You leave, Not stay and annoy, You give out bad mapping advice and havent even showed your better at mapping to be allowed to give advice.

My purpose isn't to stay and annoy.
And how is my advice bad? I'm curious to know what's false about what I said.
1. It really IS a good idea to keep it to one thread. I got to where I am now because I DIDN'T do that. It helps keep your more organized and easier to find in general.
2. Most train crossings in cities like his have bells and roadgates, it's more realistic like that
3. I don't know what's incorrect about seeing under the map, he should've just removed the displacement from the sidewalk (why would you have one) if he had one or change the Nodraw texture, or make a thicker brush. I'm just pointing out small problems with already done areas of the map, I get that it's a W.I.P.
4. Sounds usually don't come from nowhere
5. This one wasn't advice, I just wanted to know what the box was there for.
I really dont see what's wrong with what I say.

I'm going to end this conversation between me, Best4Bond and Melon_Mapper right here like the other thread. This guy doesn't deserve our shit on his thread, he is a pretty good mapper and really doesn't need any of this
If you agree with me, then just DON'T continue the argument.
Considering you could see outside the map in several areas, i think that the map is probably there to see what people think of the train, not a full "look at this awesome map".
Again, the floating orange box usually means it's a placeholder for something.
Calm down boys. ok :)
The Orange Button is so i can test the train, In the future this will start by itself
I experimented in gate and mostly resulted players not being able to park their car In front of the train (For the lols) And also the gate either Crushed players / cars Or just reset and went up.
And at this time There is no Draws everywhere so its no time to be Worrying about that when there is mostly no ground.
Anyway Thanks :)
You could just use lights, instead of gates. That way, there is something visual, but doesn't get in the way. There are still some gateless level crossings around.

This crossing has no Gates just light signals

Yeah but that's a fucking slow train
Yeah but that's a fucking slow train
Doesn't matter how slow the train is. There are places in the world that don't have gates. I know of a foot crossing which is just some wood between the tracks in the middle of a forest. There is just the sign telling people to look both ways before crossing. No lights, no alarms.

You must be kind of a big deal around these parts

Big deal would be an understatement.
