Straight to the point! I am in lack of ideas about this map, so tips/critism/opinions/ratings are most welcome and needed! ...but before you scroll down and type the comment, please think twice before posting! ...and yes, please don't mind the cliffs, I left them for the very end (There's not much to show yet, but I'll be updating this post every time I'll modifty anything) I am going to place your ideas below (the good ideas ofcourse) and also ideas of mine TO-DO LIST: -Tavern -Mining cave (dunno yet, rate the idea) -Church (Same, rate it) -Find more ideas (Oh, yeah!) Screenies: TO VIEW IN FULL SIZE, RIGHTMBUTTON > Copy image url > Paste URL > Enter Small Update 2011-06-07 I've been busy, so I couldn't do much. So far, only the view from far, no closer look on the village
-Finished the church -Added new builiding -Added stairs which will lead to the other builidings and watch tower -Added some datail like: Trees, big rocks and blended texture -Setting up myself for making a tavern (I REQUIRE GOOD IDEAS) [img_thumb]http://cloud.steampowered.com/ugc/542895995290145234/BB93DA5AC59E2E7406A0B2EE10EB48DDBE7E0DAB/[/img_thumb]
Looks very nice so far. Only thing I can think of is add some more foliage. This cliffs look OK they just look a bit too smooth on the top, I would make then more jagged.

Also about the cliffs, they are just subdivide made, not edited yet.
I love that waterfall.
I love that waterfall.
Me either
Roughen up those displacements, and I recommend custom textures for them, the stock HL2 ones really aren't that great... the waterfall looks great so far, but needs more... more... It needs to stand out a little more, some splashes and spray will make it more pronounced. There are some other areas, like the repeating textures inside which niggle, but they can be improved with just a little more detail added, with props and such breaking them up... Good job so far though.

If I expand it, I'll have to redo part of the cliffs either @Edit2: added some new pics, rate the new house
Definitely thicken up the foliage, make use of lots of rock models under the tress with ferns and shrubs surrounding groups of trees, kind of like a border. Also you might want to make the white house a little more interesting, maybe add a shed or something behind. I like the looks of this though, I enjoy making and playing in forest maps like this. Also, what kind of look are you moving towards with this map? Is it going to look more rundown and abandoned or more like summer cottages?

I hate the roof on that house. Try this. [editline]28th May 2011[/editline] Wait I just found this. Compare to the OP. :v:
Roofs are typically thicker than that.
Roofs are typically thicker than that.
I think old houses have more thinner roofs, Which looks like what he was going for.
I think old houses have more thinner roofs, Which looks like what he was going for.
The buildings that were posted don't have roofs like his and the styles are similar. The roofs should be fixed.
The buildings that were posted don't have roofs like his and the styles are similar. Looks much nicer [editline]29th May 2011[/editline] Looking at the OP now. I like the bridge. The texture you used on the house on the right feels a bit overused. And make a gate to get into the fenced house in the back.

Break it up with some brush detail, then.
ALOT more foilage.
Small update, have been busy lately.
The church seems a bit empty, I sudgest you add some crosses in it or something.
The roof shingles/tiles don't match the rest of the church and make it look too much like the other buildings. It needs something more distinct.
Small update!
the cave looks too perfectly round [editline]7th June 2011[/editline] Try looking up Tavern WOW for some atmospheric inspiration. (WOW is too cartoony for actual reference, but you'll get some ideas)
Am I the only one that can just see 1 single pic?
Am I the only one that can just see 1 single pic?
Nay, I've deleted part of the pics, I'll post the new ones soon :P
