I just realized i had been using Episode 1 when i was making my map, when i was supposed to use the Episode 2 engine.
When i changed to Episode 2 it said "1 solid(s) were not loaded ... would you like to save your map without the solid" or something like that.
I pressed yes and saved the file on my desktop.
When i open it in hammer all lamps/props etc i had placed were gone.
So can i just continue on my first save even though there was an error? or should i continue on it with the Episode 1 engine again?
Thanks.
First save.
You can't smoothly switch between engines when working on one map.
You have to choose either the old Episode 1 engine, or the Orange Box engine, and stick with it.
If you messed up and meant to make your map in the Orange Box engine, you might as well start over from scratch. If somehow the .vmf file from the old engine loads up fine in the new engine, then the props that you placed will not show up in the new engine because of the different model directories (which is what happened in your case).
Switching engines during a map might cause other problems later on as well so you might want to start from scratch.
