look like shit :( sry but its stupid map
But if you know it's fucking bad why did you post it? the general stuff is wrong with it: Blocky. Need more detail. And light (I know it's hammer screenshots, but I don't see any light entities there)
Aaaa, everything hurts me in it!! *dies*
Not bad, at least u know how to place spawns XD
well i envisioned, a street with sidewalks and trees, then the alley being between two buildings... and then i was like holy fucking shit...
well i envisioned, a street with sidewalks and trees, then the alley being between two buildings... and then i was like holy fucking shit...
Maybe i would help u a little ? If you want to add me to friends, just say :)
Holy crap that's awful. It needs: Much more detail. Lights. Better textures. No desert eagles. And the spawn points need to be on the ground. And no AWMs.

full bright, blocky map #234 645
HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA HEHEHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA HA no seriously though lighting and interlopers work best for learning to not suck
Nothing wrong with sharing your first map, he didn't actually post it in releases. As your first try I'd say you did a decent job, all you need now is lighting.
Well its not bad, but then again its pretty much the standard of all first maps. They all seem to follow the similar style which yours does. The entitys dont need to be 5 feet off the floor, as long as they are not clipping the surrounding brushes then they can be as low as possible. The texture choice isnt great, for example look at the second image down, your wall suddenly changes from concrete, to mouldy distressed bricks. You just would not really see this in the real world. The roof tiles also seem very random, they do not fit with the surrounding textures. The map looks blocky because obviously there is no complex architecture, but what many beginners don't realise is that textures can also play an influencial part on the 'blockiness' of your map. Your walls dont have to all be one texture, you can split them and have a different texture at the top and a different one at the bottom, you will see this a lot in HL2/CSS in various areas in order to give the walls something rather than it just being a bland solid one brush wall. Lighting too, although that will come with time I imagine, you really need to learn how to light your maps in order to make them worthwhile. Fullbright maps are a no go. I know I have been pretty harsh there, but if you dont receive critisicim then you will struggle to improve.
If you think it's shit, make it unshit?
I think it's one of the best fucking maps I've ever seen.
I love when player spawns float.
So, the gameplay of the map would basically consist of both teams arming themselves with AWPs and ending the match within three seconds?
pretty much, unless they managed to miss 160 shots... in all 8 of the awps...
I like the pillars.
Welcome to facepunch, Mr. c0nk3r . New mapper of October/2009 :fuckyou:

Just because he releases a map that looks like that, it doesn't automatically mean he is a troll. It could be that they are a map beginner. Also, raising spawnpoints like that is a useful technique in css as there is a highly annoying bug that happens if you don't do that. Although the spawns may be a little too high.

Turn down grid size, add decals realistically, change textures, clip some brushes, throw in some props, put in decent lighting, add some more rooms, make support for the walls, add realistic wall deterioration such as broken bricks, unique things like trash bags on fire, unreachable parts like fire escapes and rooftops with props to add realism, more brushes, rain, displacements for the gravel, and wires. Then it should be a pretty decent map.
Good for first map. Not good enough for a thread.
I would have posted my first map a long time ago if Facepunch had existed then. It's nice to have any sort of recognition for your work, no matter how shitty it is. It's like when you take a giant dump, the biggest you've ever taken, and you just have to show somebody-- it's a huge pile of shit, but you made it. Be proud of your shit.
Floating spawns, courtesy of 3kliksphilip.
Because you should stick your spawns in the floor so they don't work, right? CS:S spawns don't work if they're touching the floor. You need at least a unit's clearance
Didn't anyone ever tell you to NEVER release your first map?!
