This is a first for mapping. It is a 1 gauge map that has a factory, 2 stations, a quarry, 2 towns and yards, a standard gauge track and more. This is a beta but I feel it is a good map so far and hope you enjoy it. map made by Rockon and MeatBall Sub [IMG][/IMG] [IMG][/IMG] [IMG][/IMG] link to Download http://www.garrysmod.org/downloads/?a=view&id=93066 more info soon.
Doesn't look too bad, and you put the same pic in twice. The rock walls are a bit annoying, they repeat too much.
It's rather block, and some of the textures are stretched. To improve this you could do:
Google archutexture.

Not clicking 'FIT' texture on hammer.

Looking at others work and getting ideas from it, don't copy them completly though.
I like the train tracks, they're a little high though.
For a first attempt, it looks pretty decent. It was better than my first map.
I'm sorry if this sounds harsh, but it looks awful. However, i have good news. If you want to improve, you can. For a start, stop using fit on all your brushes...it makes it look stretched and out of place with other textures. The next thing is the architecture. It looks wrong. Paper thin walls, no borders, not joins. It all looks too flimsy and too perfect. Add in some grime and clutter and it would be a step in the right direction.
I winced when I saw the "cliff".
;20619847']
Google archutexture.

wat
What's not to get? Go to google and search "architecture" for images.
I'm just wondering what the hell "archutexture" means...
I'm just wondering what the hell "archutexture" means...
*Facepalm* ill probably get banned if i just say that so, archutexture is the design and features of building, such as rims around windows, engraved statues or just overall a weird design to the building.
So architecture =/= archutexture?
archutexture = architecture + bad spelling(lack of knowledge/fails to google)
archutexture = architecture + bad spelling(lack of knowledge/fails to google)
Yeah, that's what I thought. Rule of thumb: If a word reminds you of another word on the internet, it is that word. People just suck at spelling. Archutexture... Pfft...
Looks below decent.
Looks ok.
Nice first map!

I plan on making a new map and a better one at that. This is only a beta. [editline]05:59PM[/editline]
I like the train tracks, they're a little high though.
You need to play the map to understand the tracks. one gauge is not standard.

I have played pre-alpha's that look better than this. Also, don't blame source. It is immensely powerful, and it will be your inexperience that caused the issues. If you are going to release a map, use up to date images. This is what most people will judge the map on. I did not download the map as i know know what to look for in images alone. And if models are not appearing. check your compile log in case there are a mass of errors stating stuff about static props.
I really like it, and I like how you used the train track model from hl2. =D good work so far!
I'm trying it out. And the ng track idea is nice...
I'm trying it out. And the ng track idea is nice...
well im kinda iffy about it...i like makign things big, and all my trains are just that, so it's kinda terrible for me =/
the junction in looks really iffy; try to keep either 1 track or the other straight all the way through it. I'd recommend mocking up the map in a train simulator editor (Trainz would be ideal for this, IMO).
I only helped with track gauge and design of the layout other wise this is just a beta for one gauge maps and trains "not a huge amount effort was put into it" we are planing a new map which will be a better design, textures, buildings, etc this was just to get more people on the one gauge bandwagon.
Very shabby. Also, isn't part of that BJk's?

As well as when i stand in gmod i see below ground instead of viewing everything from eye level. I have re installed gmod and that did nothing. Well it is sort of my fault considering I am to lazy to reinstall source. Also there are no errors in the compile log. I really have no idea what is wrong but I am still working on this map and it is getting a little better. but still is meh. I agree with the picture part I did fail using out of date images. -.- Also I failed with the versions. The one I gave everyone was the newest at that time but I am still fixing some bugs with it. I will eventualy reupload it and It should be a fair bit better. [editline]06:59PM[/editline]
Very shabby. But other than that everything else was made by me.

Thats really nice for a first map man! But i dont think you should have too high hopes for its popularity.
Thats really nice for a first map man! But i dont think you should have too high hopes for its popularity.
agreed it does look nice. yes lots of maps that are popular even get very lost after non use.
