Okay... so, i'm playing pd_destruct,([URL="http://http://www.garrysmod.org/downloads/?a=view&id=93892"]http://http://www.garrysmod.org/downloads/?a=view&id=93892[/URL]) And i'm loving the atmosphere. However, it's just a gm_construct re-skin (so to speak). So I acquired the .vmf of rp_downtown_v2 from gmod.org and would like to change the atmosphere to that of post-apocalyptic scene. (Maybe the EP1 Citadel?) Anyways, if Thepro would contact me that would be greatly appreciated. I've contacted the creator of pd_destruct (Shameless plug above) Pdan4. would appreciate help on this so PM me if your interested. Steam Handle: jamesg1005
It's very unlikely he will give you permission.
that vmf is likely decompiled, it's going to take a lot longer to fix all the errors brought along with the decompilation process than to change the environment. When a vmf is compiled to a bsp, backfaces are culled and the data is lost. The decompiler just guesses where the backfaces are, and this fucks up the brushwork pretty badly.

Because all the culled backfaces were recreated by VMEX in a not too clean way (it guesses how the back of brushes look, the data of the backfaces is removed when the map is compiled) It will look the same, but recompiling it will be a lot worse. And all the props/entities should have carried over fine, that data is stored in full in the BSP.
It was actually uploaded by The Pro. The creator of Downtown. So, I doubt it was decompiled.

If you add above par new things people will only want to play with those above par new things and not the other above par things they have been playing with for a year so you will have 40 players (the other 10 are AFK) crowding around the above par new buildings waiting for the person who owns them (and half of the map) to crash so that they can own/steal them. If you are a good mapper you would be trying to make a better rp map instead of making your own version of DTV2. I personally think Evocity looks better, and I like the feeling. Not to mention the other maps I'd prefer to it.

Simply put, good maps take ages to make. Allowing someone to take the product of those tens/hundreds of hours of mapping and spend five minutes making some UBER COMBINE BASE!!11!!1!!, releasing it as something they claim to have made, the original creator of the map will get angry. If someone took the map I've been working on since the fall and added some bullshit pile of weapons and "secret" tunnels, I'd be pissed. If you want to edit a map for personal use, go ahead and decompile it. Just don't fucking release it. [editline]07:36PM[/editline] Ever
