Ideas for maps for beginner that will both be easy enough to accomplish, yet challenge them in several ways.
You could make your house and neighborhood.
Or make a sandbox map that has some big buildings and a color scheme.
And you can also try to make a hotel with a simple elevator.
Honestly, it's better off to not ask other people for ideas for a map, because that would mean it's not something that you want to do. You should do something that YOU want to do and that you think of, because then it gives more motivation to actually finish and make good.
But that's just me....
Start small, if you're still learning I wouldn't tackle a brick wall.

There are some good methods on this page for a beginner to Hammer, you can find a good way to alleviate that stretching on it.
Heh, stretching.
hmm is it fine to use so many of poligons for just cylindrical wires ?

If you want wires, use move_rope.
For it not stretching like that put texture lock on it look like this <-tl-> it on the top of hammer

Texture lock only affects the movement of a brush, its Scaling texture lock you want, and you need to turn it off so it doesn't scale, not on!
I think the texture is probably like that anyway, alot of them look bad at default size.

Correct me if I'm wrong but aren't those Half-Life textures that initially had bad quality? (Well, good for '98.)
Make me a perfect 1:1 recreation of the solar system.

at times like these we really need a "not funny" rating

At times like this you should hush down and let people have fun.

I've seen that link so many times I know what it is straight away now. :v:
Aww...I'll have to reupload it. Or make it worse...
It broke zombiedawg though. Now when he speaks to me its just a stream of incomprehensible syllables.

I thought he always spoke like that.
He was perfectly fine with me before i asked him to check out the map...
I must say, it is a bit of an eye searer.
Try making something like a house wars type of map. Two houses and a long battle field.
That's my first real build (Not testing or playing around)

At times like these we really need a "you make me sad" rating.
If we had all the ratings we wanted, there would be no need for words. Also the ratings list would be longer than the arms restrictions detailed in the Hague conventions (which everyone seems to ignore).
