Hi FacePunchers,
I'm here with an exciting opportunity for any aspiring (or existing) level designers. We at GameBanana have teamed up with Razer and the developers of Insurgency (New World Interactive), to offer a massive level design contest! The winner of which will get their map featured in the game, $1000, a top of the range Razer gaming laptop and a ton of Razer gaming gear. (Plus loads of runner up prizes).

Entrants have 14 weeks from today to (until Midnight on the 1st of October), to create a unique custom map for insurgency using Hammer or your choice of level editor (Sledge, Wall Worm etc..) and upload it to GameBanana and the Workshop. We will also be working closely with the games dev's who will be running weekly blogs and tutorials on how to map for Insurgency.
Full details and rules can be found here: http://gamebanana.com/contests/48
I hope you don't consider this adverting, we're really excited about this contest and think it might be something many of you might be interested in! If you've got any questions about the contest or GameBanana in general feel free to ask.
Hmm sounds interesting... Better fix the link though, it doesn't work at the moment. The text is the right link, but it's hyperlinked to something else. :v:

Fixed, thanks!
I will be entering. If anyone from FP wants to team up with me - PM me! (If we win anything we split the money 50/50 and you get all the hardware.)
Sledge, Wall Worm etc..
Woah, i never knew there were alternatives to hammer :o
Woah, i never knew there were alternatives to hammer :o
SLEDGE currently only supports Half-Life 1. Wall Worm is a 3D Studio Max plugin and thus well beyond my understanding.
This seems too good to be true. :v:
I hope this will produce some really good maps for the game, hopefully the best will make it into the main game.
aww i don't own insurgency, so i'll skip

If you're quick you might still be able to get it in the Steam Summer Sale, it's been on offer for $6 the past few days!
Do I have to register somewhere beforehand or I can upload the map when it's finished?
60 Days isn't a lot of time to make a entire new original map, And I'm not quite sure If I want to participate because of the CEVO Contest mess. I'm not quite sure I can trust Game Banana and their judges to be honest.
This is open to other countries right? Not just the US? Also, what gamemodes can we make the map for?

I believe the developers themselves will be a part of the judging.
Typical. The ONE Source game with an SDK that I don't own and there is a big contest for it.

That's correct, the maps will be judged by both GameBanana staff and New World Interactive.

We have taken on a lot of the feedback from the CEVO contest, the rules and judging criteria are now much, much more transparent. Also last time we had 1 week (imposed by CEVO) to test 70+ maps, this time we will take as long as necessary to make sure all of the maps are judged thoroughly.

Yes this is open to people of all countries :-)

You will need a GameBanana account in order to upload files (this is free and only takes a few minutes to set up). You will also need a valid Steam account in order to upload content to the Valve Steam Workshop.

$1000 really isn't that much of a prize for what will be weeks of work for many entrants in my opinion.

So don't enter. You can do a lot with $1000 and for most people, mapping is just a hobby, not a primary source of income.

For most people the main prize will be fact that the winning map gets put in game. The $1,000 and Razer Gaming Laptop (~$2,500) are nice prizes, but for anyone who takes level design seriously, and wants to get into the industry, having your work in a published title is a huge reward and steppingstone toward future employment.
Just a quick update: This contest has been extended until the 1st of October based on community feedback.

This is a very stupid decision. Too much time defeats the the purpose of a competition (with the exception of the rewards).

I feel that this isn't a good thing. Maps require a lot of effort, and the chances of you winning is small.
tbh I think smaller more creative and silly contests are better than super large ones, because it's just a lot of work that won't be rewarded if you lose.

To be that guy, we aren't even supposed to be getting any sort of monetary exchange for maps according to valve's terms and conditions. Mappers here do a legally shaky as hell workaround and claim to get money 'for the work, not the map', which I've never agreed with. Seems silly to complain about something as if this is a perfectly okay practice to begin with.

That is awesome, I was working my nuts off (even considered skipping testing for my map).
Thanks for doing this!
Someone should hide secret stuff in there, keep it totally secret until its in the game, then once the game is released spread the secret.
A switch to make walls destructible or something.

Why? A gimmic is fun, but something that can break gameplay?

doesn't make the point of video invalid. You still work your ass off with a little chance of winning. If you want your map to make it in game, just post it on forums or workshop. If the map is outstanding, it will likely get in game reguardless whether it was made in context of the contest or not.

Yeah, I get that, I was only talking about the cash prize. That's why I only mentioned money.
