• Low Res Materials

Not sure why, but SDK decides to use low-res materials. This isnt usually a problem, but it's difficult reading entity types (the words under the icon). How would I buff up the material quality?
Do you think you could be a little more clearer?

I can read it. Its env_spark. I don't see whats hard about memorizing the sprites, that is what I did.

I'll try it now, give me a moment. [editline]10:27PM[/editline] No luck, I went into the sourcesdk.gcf and found the path to the materials, but apparently even though I extract them and change them up, it doesn't effect it in hammer. I didn't try saving it to my gcf, cause I didn't know if Id get a weird error or something. Of course, there sure is a chance that you can probably.
Thanks for trying.
You may just have a shitty computer. You can fix it by getting a better one.
This isn't a "problem". It happens only in the Orange Box engine, and I believe they did it because EP:2 had many wide open areas, and large maps. I believe it is a form of optimization. All the materials and such in the Orange Box engine are like that, and I don't think there is a way of getting around it. A bad computer is definetly not the cause of it.
Its some (nVidia)? card problem i believe. Theres some fix for it by changing the settings on your graphics card
Its some (nVidia)? card problem i believe. Theres some fix for it by changing the settings on your graphics card
This sems most realistic as my graphics card is pretty decent (ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT) and my crappy laptop shows them at high-res.

Use GCFScape to open "Steam\SteamApps\base source engine 2.gcf" and locate bin\dxsupport.cfg 2. Extract that file to SourceSDK\bin\orangebox\bin\ 3. edit the file and change the line "ConVar.mat_picmip" "2" to "ConVar.mat_picmip" "-1"
-by Shrinker

(Thanks Terrenteller)
Jesus. Use google. I've had this problem before and the first google result gave me the answer.
