Hey guys, it's been a while since I last did some mapping/post something here! (As you can tell by my enormous amount of posts and threads since 2005) So me and a friend of mine decided to do a remake of Ocarina Of Time - my part is to create the maps : in case this project doesn't get as far as I hope - we will still have the maps which are compatible to any other source engine game! The mappack that I'm currently working on includes self made/converted high res textures with bump mapping and lighting! Isn't that awesome? YAR. I first started with the temple of time and will now go on creating all the dungeons and the hyrule field. Some pics for you, my friends :3 Also, love. But nohomo <3 OH BOY LOOK AT THE SEXYNESS OF BUMPMAPPING!!! That's a great project, but how big are you willing to make map parts? It sounds like you want a legitimate remake here, so I guess you also want everything to scale. Is hyrule field going to be split up into different maps? It's pretty big. [editline]19th June 2011[/editline] What areas do you have mapped so far? How long did those parts take?
Oh god how I hate imageshack. Can you post your screenshots in full size?
I have done the forest temple before, that one took about 2 days I think, but i lost it anyways due to a total data loss ._. The temple of time was about 3 hours mapping since I wasn't pleased with the results at first! I think the hyrule field is doable in one piece but I haven't checked that yet, right now I'm working on the dungeon where you get that one song which turns night to day (forgot the exact name ;D ) The deku tree is also pretty far, I have to admit that I'm always working on the parts that i like to ;) Sometimes I get annoyed by one area and then I need to start working on something else... >.< The most work lies within creating textures, bumpmaps and putting them in the actual game - but I'm not giving up on creating the whole game as maps! :D AAAAND: I will put the following pics in a more human format so that you won't have to fuck with imageshak ;)
It's great that you're producing quality work at such a fast rate. If you don't finish the maps(or if you do), are you going to release them? also I think 'Royal Family's Tomb' is close enough.

Also this looks pretty cool. Though I recommend making your normal maps not so intense. It looks odd.
haha sure, the royal family's tomb was meant :D yeah i'm definetily going to release the maps as soon as they're finished - i'm also thinking about integrating the OOT-soundtrack into the maps for a athmospheric bonus :D yet we're not sure how to build up this mod - technically it's easy to create all of the small quest things in hammer - like activating a switch to trigger a door for a certain time... but the enemies and weapons and stuff would have to be animated, scripted and so on... maybe it would be smarter to make some kind of community project out of this - especially because facepunch has many talented guys - maybe coding this in LUA would even be possible - but i don't know about that, i'm just the maps/graphics guy ;D
I recommend making your normal maps not so intense. It looks odd.
Agreed. Looks very odd in the Master Sword room in particular. Also, Hyrule Field shouldn't be too big to make as one map. Anyway, this is a cool idea. I had an idea to remake Kokiri Forest and the Lost Woods (with updated graphics and whatnot), but I haven't gotten around to it.

Your goal should be to create the maps, not the game (let someone create that via scripting). It's also a good idea to compile with and without sounds added, release the sounds one publicly and give no-sound copies of the maps to those who ask, in-case they want to play their own music. concerning comments about weird mapping I think everything looks great, other than the floor of the sword room looking like it's casting a shadow onto itself.
alright, that idea concerning the music is really good, i'll do that! and the bumpmapping in the newer textures is much better as slowly improved my knowledge about texturing :)
One other thing I forgot to mention is the lighting. I know you're going for the retro look and all, but the lighting is REALLY harsh and the volumetric effects are too prominent. You should lower the opacity of the volumetric models, and try and give the lighting a bit more color to it rather than have it at pure white. The sunlight from outside is the only thing lighting the inside of the temple, so it shouldn't be white, it should have a warm, yellowish color to it (well it really depends on the time of day you choose).
Is this being worked on without shown progress or did you just abandon it right after telling FP?
Good lord you have to use http://imgur.com/ instead of Imageshack in future. The map's looking very nice, I'll be following this.
Is this being worked on without shown progress or did you just abandon it right after telling FP?
Oh I see :(
Can you perhaps upload the Hyrule Field map to here? Been looking all over :C
I had an idea to remake Kokiri Forest and the Lost Woods (with updated graphics and whatnot), but I haven't gotten around to it.
Oh god, if you could somehow work the worldportals from the Portal 2 SDK in, that could make Lost Woods so much more confusing.
Are you sure you can take something like this on? OoT was a pretty long game.
note that this thread was bumped, it is four months old the OP abandoned this unannounced
God damn it guys.
