how do i make an animated texture

i want to make an animated texture i can use in hammer. for example water. how would i make the animation. and also would i need to make the vmf and vtf difrently. i use vtf edit. thanks for your time

You would need lot's of images to make an animated texture. If you import lot's of images straight into VTFEdit then it's pretty easy.

It also generates a .vmt, so that's easy as well.
