Your voting choices are odd. What's an optimistic map?
Post-apocalyptic >.>
Il add photos of the maps and il add apocalyptic..
I guess Suncity counts as the Paradise if you ask me.
There Pictures Are up :) Optimistic On voting is actually apocalyptic..
Post-apocalyptic >.>
Sounds more pessimistic than optimistic
Sounds more pessimistic than optimistic
Can't you see the gaybows? Voted optimistic.
Can't you see the gaybows? Voted optimistic.
Optimistic is actually suppost to be apocalyptic by the way..
Optimistic is actually suppost to be apocalyptic by the way..
That's why I voted for it, derp.
Thats fine then..
Downtown isn't that bad. Well at not as bad as you're making it out to be. Anyway, Post-apocalyptic is probably the one I prefer out of the very select options.
I don't think we could really have a sci-fi syle unless somebody wants to make a sci-fi rp gamemode to fit the fact its not very realistic. :ohdear:
Either Post-Apocalyptic or small and detailed. I think I'll go with small and detailed. As much as I completely love Post-Apocalyptic, the average city map will fit much more scenarios. Thing is, unless Evocity had a server that was running it with 128 players (Maybe there is?), then it's kinda pointless. There's too much open space. So I'm going to go with small and detailed, it makes it seem more like a real city.
Actually , I'd love to see that sci-fi concept as a map. Just that huge street bit in the middle is epic.
Post-apocalyptic >.>
This. Add this to the poll.
RP_Downtown is going to be the standard for a long time; it's an amazing map.
Strainge Paradice x2 spelling errors :3:
RP_Downtown is going to be the standard for a long time; it's an amazing map.
It's aright. I swear half the mappers here (the decent ones, not the "I discovered hammer and I'm mapping the whole of America" ones) don't even play RP and shit.
sgt. sgt.
Yeah. I never noticed before, but i guess you learn new things every day. :smug: [editline]09:44PM[/editline]
sgt. sgt.
Sgt.Sgt plays RP... [editline]09:47PM[/editline] Heres proof.
Come ask stupid questions again. Actually RP this time please. 98.214.249.83:27015 Servers up for an undetermined amount of time.
[editline]09:47PM[/editline] He plays on this server.
I was saying he played it Not that he didn't
Ohh, Sorry.
I don't RP much, but it would be nice to see something new and refreshing to the RP community.
Truth is, downtown is flawless. I haven't seen a single bug in downtown. I've tried all sorts of RP maps to replace downtown on my server but in the end downtown is the only one without problems. - Evocity2 is huge (filesize) and requires a commandline and is often laggy on low-end computers, so we lose players. -HL2 rp doesn't work when you're running darkRP, so all the hl2 theme maps are ruled out. -Hometown has gun machines and isn't very big or interesting for a decent size server. -oviscity has a nuke button which works even in the "fixed" version. There's a load more but you get the point. Nothing is going to replace downtown apart from another map in a similar style, in a similar setting, with the same features (and more) and it must be equally flawless.
Downtown does everything that it does perfectly. The styling is perfect and consistent through the entire map. The map is laid out in such a way that you can get from one point to another in a reasonable time. There's no bugs. It's perfectly adapted to DarkRP and all the classes. The only thing I don't like about it is that I've played it for probably 200+ hours, it's getting old at this point. The only map I like more than RP_Downtown is City 18. It's similarly perfect, but the RP experience isn't quite up to snuff. City 18 raises mapping to an art form, what's what I like about it. The lighting is perfect based on the setting, the texturing is great, and it just crafts this wonderful environment that is even better than some of the stuff that Valve made for HL2, IMO. Truly a masterpiece.
I'd do the Sci-Fi if I were you. Post-Apocalyptic has been done to freakin' death... if you really want to stand out from the crowd, a sci-fi map will do it. Plus, if you go for certain sci-fi styles you can get away with clean lines and simple geometry - lessening the rquirements on some computers. Of course, you'll have to be good at curves - a lot of futurist designs rely on them.
Half-Life RP maps work fine, they are just done wrong. Seriously, it's not the same setting as Half-Life 2 in a way. Sure, City 18 is a great map, but the "Nexus" is used wrong. The metropolice were never explained where they were from, and sure as hell didn't use the Citadel/Nexus. The Citadel was just too damn important, and the Nexus was used for the Overwatch. Another misconception was that Nova Prospekt was their area. That was used by Overwatch aswell. It was like a prison/military base at the same time. I'm stating that the Combine adjusts pre-existed buildings to their uses. They would probably just use a regular police station, adapt it however the hell they see fit, and use that. It's quite obvious that this is what the Combine do. The ration station is in a train station, sometimes other places. Hell, even the Nexus and Nova Prospekt were build upon pre-existing buildings. This brings up another point, if they are going to call it the Nexus, then they may as well fit the design that Valve used for the Nexus. It was some government building, not a huge ass metal structure. I've played Dark RP and Tacoscript and whatever other RP scripts you can think of on these. City 45 works fine, City 18 works fine. I mean, it would help if they WERE more accessible, but they really aren't. It just depends on how it's set up. The reason I see Downtown as being successful, is everything is near everything, easily accessible, and everything is mixed. Gun Shops are near everything else, the slums are right next door to the police station, and it just works. Hell, my best RP experiences were in Downtown, City 45, and City 18. All-in-all, this was more or less some kind of rant about how Half-Life 2 RP works just fine, or something. Fuck, I think it was just me thinking out loud. This is just how Half-Life 2 maps SHOULD work, and if so, can be just as good as regular "real life" maps.
Downtown is a good map, but its not that good.
