:suicide: Seriously, you're all killing me by arguing about the lighting in my Garry's Mod map. Just stop it. Okay?! I can't add lighting into my map, I'm trying so fucking hard. For God's sake, just stop it. Sit in the corner if you don't think I'm trying.
Arguing? I believe people just said to add lighting if I remember correctly. Its really not that hard either. Just pick a skybox you like from the link below, set it as the maps skybox, add a light_environment and copy and paste one of the suggested settings below the skybox you picked into the light_environment. You gotta work at having a better attitude if you wanna get into making maps. Take a deep breath, calm down, and work at figuring out what you can do to improve your skillset.
I'm not familiar with gm_openspace_final, what is the problem with the lighting?
I'm not familiar with gm_openspace_final, what is the problem with the lighting?
There is none.
I'm not familiar with gm_openspace_final, what is the problem with the lighting?
I keep changing the ambient and stuff, but I'm not seeing shading or anything.
This probably isn't something you should've made a thread about. The poll isn't helping either, I think most people are just going to vote the negative for negative's sake. Disregard the voting results and just keep on it, man.
I keep changing the ambient and stuff, but I'm not seeing shading or anything.
Ah, that's the problem. The ambient isn't gonna stop a fullbright look, you gotta change both the color of the brightness and the angle at which the sun casts shadows, otherwise it's gonna be just one big super bright light pointed straight down. Take a look at this link if you're using any of these skyboxes in this list, as it'll tell you what Valve used for the light_environment settings for certain skyboxes. Light also emits from tools/toolsskybox texture https://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/Sky_List
light_environment points to the side actually. Pitch is NEGATIVE so if you want sunlight straight down, a pitch of -90 and horizontal is 0.

I voted negative because of the fit you threw. Seriously just having your map sit with the shitty fullbright lighting is not an option. Buck up and figure it out.
Ugh, no way I'm seeing that piece of full bright crap again!
Oh wait now I remember, this is the guy who wouldn't take anybody's advice and seemed like he was trolling. Anybody want to weigh in? Think he's fucking with us?

I'm surprised this kid even figured out how to open Hammer.
No need to be rude, really.
No need to be rude, really.
Not rude, just brutally honest.
If you cant figure out how to add light to you map, despite people trying to help and even showing you guides, I think its a sign that you need to stop and find something else to be constructive in. If you're just trolling, keep making yourself look like an idiot. The shitstorms your maps generate are very entertaining.
Regardless, nothing's really achieved by being just a rude in return. It's better off just adding nothing if that's all that's gonna be said, cuz it just fuels things more than they need to be. He's pretty much on his own at this point cuz we've all given him a means to get things done, so it's just gotta be taken from there. Nothing else really adds to the thread anymore cuz everything's alread said that needs to be said, so anything else is really just a waste, especially if it's insults like "wow i can't believe he figured out how to open Hammer".
Pretty much just feeding him by this point. I sincerely hope he's only young and isn't sitting in his computer chair giggling because he thinks he is a master troll who cunningly misled the people that just want to see him improve his mapping ability.
I'm surprised this kid even figured out how to open Hammer.
seriously this was the hardest part of starting to use hammer for me
I'm surprised this kid even figured out how to open Hammer.
Most of the time they are able to figure it out by posting a nearly incomprehensible question in the steam sdk forums. Usually after the fourth or fifth time they are asked to rephrase they get an answer.
Something I did when I started mapping was not ever showing anyone the first like 7-10 things I worked on. I've scrapped the majority of the projects I've started. If you're not a troll, just keep trying and trying. It's really the only way.
Honestly, I face palm'd reading this thread and the other threads you posted. You are posting basically asking for input/feedback and then constantly say to stop whining or such while everyone is giving you constructive criticism. You either need to be serious about wanting to improve and take advice and criticism how ever it is given and learn to improve. Throwing a temper tantrum about you not being able to figure it out won't get you anywhere in life, let alone mapping. Google is your best friend. You will find abundant of tutorials from various people such as 3kilksphillip, TopHATTwaffle, or even FireGod522. You shouldn't feel the need to post/publish every thing you make, Trust me the Workshop has enough of those. Ask yourself or a friend to play it a bit and see if you would actually enjoy playing that map for more then 5 minutes. If you honestly don't care about getting better and continue to just troll FacePunch Forums, god speed.
