when i make a very simple map or a very big map, i try to save it and it wont save as .vmf... it will only save as a .map or a .rmf why!????!?! how do i fix this!
Save As?
i tried that but it wouldn't work!
Are you using Valve Hammer Editor 4.0 or Normal Source SDK Hammer? If VHE 4.0 then I can say that it's made for making maps for games in GoldSrc Engine. (GoldSource have rmf and map) If that's Source SDK's Hammer then i can't explain it.
it source sdk... should i try deleteing all sdk files? then redownloading
Take a screenshot of your hammer with the save dialogue open please.
ill make a video
For my knowledge it might have been a Counter-Strike 1.6, Half-Life 1 or other GoldSource game .fgd file used in Source SDK. If not then I really can't help you.

Try resetting your game configurations.
Try resetting your game configurations.
how
On the main menu of the sdk, reset game configurations option.
Incidentally, pressing f9 will not save the map as a vmf. It will compile the map into a bsp which you can then play in hl2 or any other source title.
i know that but when i do "save as" it wont save as a .vmf. to compile a map it must be a vmf....
i know that but when i do "save as" it wont save as a .vmf. to compile a map it must be a vmf....
Have you tried resetting your configurations yet?
Incidentally, pressing f9 will not save the map as a vmf. It will compile the map into a bsp which you can then play in hl2 or any other source title.
Incidentally to your incidentally, if you try to compile an previously unsaved map it makes you save it first.

But i was throwing that out there as a compile log had been posted...don't want people describing the incorrect problem.
