Well over the last few weeks many threads have been made on the mapping section and i think it's about time we had a mega thread type thing where you guys can all ask questions about the faults and hope for answers instead of everyone making there own thread for it.
Anyways in this thread you can discuss almost anything to do with the SDK faults and hopefully you should get answers.
Hope this thread is handy and i hope all your questions are answered for you guys as these problems are nightmares.

Let's state the obvious problem:
No grid.
How to fix? Fuck I forgot but I know I did it.
Switch to 2009 source engine on the SDK screen where you can click hammer and things.

The Source Engine 2009 version is working now, but The Source Engine 2007 version isn't.

Before that I thought you had to open up the .cfg or something and edit a line.

Yeah valve added the new engine to stop the grid problem i think and added dual support for HL2:EP2.

Except that, for some people, compiling is having issues with 2009, yet works with 2007.
I'm one of those. If valve don't fix this...i'll voice an empty threat (ep3 boycott anyone?)

I would love to also know the answer to this question.
At the moment i don't think they have fixed it but i may be wrong.
Oh wow, can't even launch the tools for Ep2 with the Source Engine 2009. Why isn't it on the list?

the thread tittled "Episode 2 is now running under the 2009 engine" has some fixes that you could use, it's a few pages back afaik.
The main thing that's annoying me is that I can't make a Source mod, if I make it in the 2007 engine it has no grid and if I make it in the 2009 engine.. Well, that's not supported yet.

I just reset my game configurations and it removed Hl2EP2 from the 2009 list :/
Have you guys tried creating a new Episode 2 configuration.
Just create a new one, name it Half-Life 2: Episode 2 and navigate yo your episode two\ep2 folder.
