What if someone made a map sketching program in which you can deisgn a map sketch(like visio's map planning https://products.office.com/en-us/visio/flowchart-software?WT.mc_id=PS_Google_O365SMB_%20microsoft%20%20visio_Text) Anyways what if someone made this but it has CS:GO, CS:S, and Other source game styled objects and then once you are done creating the map it can be turned into a png, gif, ect. Some features would be like: -Snap Gird -Import You Own Shapes, Images -Drag Objects from a sidebar onto the map designer -Make it so you can run hammer and the game you are designing the map for as a button to launch the programs -Make it so you can select what game your designing the map for Games Include: (CS:GO, CS:S, GMod, Half-Life Mods, L4D, L4D, Other Source Game*) *HL2 Mods, HL1 Mods, and Source Game Mods I would love this program it would make map making alot easier. Well that just about changes the way Source works unfortunately. You'll have to look at Source 2 for easier mapping tools. I'm waiting for the game that will be put onto Source 2 as a flagship release.
Just shared this in another thread, and I'm not 100% sure it applies because I'm not sure of the workflow you envision with a Visio-based mapping... but based on your mention of a map sketch. In the following video, you'll see a CS:GO map layout designed with a few splines: If that is the kind of thing you want to do, then yes, the tools are already out there.
Another one you can try is Sketchup. I personally don't recommend it because it becomes a PITA to setup the units then make sure everything stays on grid. What you are asking for is very much doable you are just going to be hard pressed to find someone with the knowledge to make such a tool for free on Source.
Sketchup is pathetic. No one in their healthy mind would choose to do that. But about this.
Anyways what if someone made this but it has CS:GO, CS:S, and Other source game
I just had an idea day ago about writing a programme for all the needs of source developement. It will just include all the custom made software for Source.

Let me know when you get anything. Ill be interested to test that out.
From my perspective the only practical problem with mapping for source is asset creation. When you want to add material you have to fight with vmt's or compilers. There is no simple solution to speed-up this process. I personally use WallWorm it is useful for compiling models. But even simple textures are pain in the ass with Source. Hopefully Source 2 will have some neat material editor. It's 2015 and you still have to compile and leave hammer to check out lighting,or close after adding texture. Sometimes i just want to kill myself because of all those unnecessary clicks.
The Dota2 Hammer allows you to drop .jpegs, .pngs and the like straight into it for use as overlays (maybe on brushes too, not sure) so I think we can safely assume that feature will be in Source 2. As for importing models, if S2 won't be capable of dragging-and-dropping .obj's onto the editor then Valve will be shooting themselves in both feet with a howitzer because it'll be hard to take an editor like that seriously in 2015/6/7/8/if it ever comes out.

Just do it by hand with some erasable pens and some graph paper. Its the easiest and simpliest way. Heres one I made a while back as an example. [T]http://i.imgur.com/22H88jp.jpg[/T] Just keep everything to a basic scale and it'll only take like half an hour to block it out in Hammer later. Otherwise, unless you use Wallworm or Sketchup, your basically out of luck.
