This is a thread for all your texture needs/requests. I thought it a shame that the old pimpage thread died, and I hope this one doesn't either. What this thread is for -Requesting textures/normals -Sharing Textures you have made -Sharing links to texture resources -Sharing Reference shots you took -Critiquing others on their WiP textures Please Thumb you images if they are large! Please Share your work with others if you post here! Thanks! I forgot I had an account on CGTextures.com.
Holy crap, tophatwaffle's texture pack is amazing. Wish I would have known about it sooner, thanks for the thread Stiffy.
The old thread still exists, I don't see why you couldn't just bump it instead of making another thread
The old thread still exists, I don't see why you couldn't just bump it instead of making another thread
exactly, this will get buried quickly too.
Eh, It's mostly for useful links as well as the old thread is 6 months old, and with people like you bumping this thread to complain, it should be fine.
The old thread still exists, I don't see why you couldn't just bump it instead of making another thread
Because there's no point contributing to a dead thread and in the map pimpage thread, people expect to see maps and not textures by themselves.
Because there's no point contributing to a dead thread and in the map pimpage thread, people expect to see maps and not textures by themselves.
No point? Contributing to dead threads is what makes them not dead, especially when the contribution is worthwhile. And why are you talking about the map pimpage thread? I linked to the old texture pimpage thread.
Does anybody know of some good food textures? Like a flat texture of food that I can use for buffet bins.
Go to a market with a camera, and take a picture of food in bins. Or perhaps Google for something like "Food Texture"?
Because the map pimpage is where people would post their textures without threads like these.
So you say that in the map pimpage thread, people expect to see maps and not just textures, yet without threads like these, people would post just textures in the same thread where others expect to see maps...so it's bad to bump a thread where people should post textures without maps Kinda contradicting yourself there...

That's the whole point of this thread. It's so people can find textures to make their maps pretty and stuff.
These are textures FOR maps. That's the whole point of this thread. It's so people can find textures to make their maps pretty and stuff.
Uhh yeah, of course it's textures for maps, what else would the textures be for
Uhh yeah, of course it's textures for maps, what else would the textures be for
I'll put it as simple as possible. Map pimpage = where people post screenies of their maps so others can C/C specifically about maps. Threads like these = where people post their textures so others can C/C specifically about textures. The older texture thread = OP hasn't been updated and thread is dead since last year. This thread = shines some light on people's work, recent info, has its uses. Overall = there's no point in contributing to a dead thread especially when forum users tend to hate others who bump old threads. There's also no point in posting your texture work in the map pimpage thread because above reasons. Solution? New textures thread.

At the end you'll have textures in two different places. Anyway, I've had those (WIP) textures on my drive for a while, would anyone be interested in a scifi-ish pack? Also, I'm working on a Black Ops 2 Texture pack. about 400+ textures so far not including normals.

I would love to use the texture from hijacked on the map I'm creating.
Here is a small Texture pack i made. It can be used for the creation of Modern Steel Based building like the World Trade Center. Commonly when you have your original tga or png, you sometimes save it layered (even if it's just one layer) and VTF Edit recognizes that when you convert your textures to vtf format. What you have to do is go back to your original pngs or tgas, and flatten your layers (in PS it's Layer > Flatten Image), and then resave it and reconvert. It should fix the problem and prevents VTF Edit from adding $translucents in your vmts.
I made some extra dev_measuregeneric textures a year or two back, nothing really special just recolorings of the originals so I could have more options while doing layout to designate certain things. Download link
Yeaaaah, Try doing that with 400+ dds images. Unless there is a way to batch convert them.
Well you could just go into each VMT and remove $translucent and leave your VTF's like that but the downside is your VTF's will have a larger file size than they would if you imported them as flattened. However you said your pack would be 400+ textures so that would be 400+ VTF's that would be larger than they should be. The way I would do it is go back to your original image files, flatten them (except the ones that need alpha channels obviously), resave them all before you start reconverting. I would also go into my original image folders, move all the bump maps and other non-diffuse maps into a different directory, then go into VTF Edit and batch convert your directory with the VTF's into your game folder (you could overwrite your VTF's or batch convert them to someplace else and replace them later). Yes it's really annoying and tedious. Personally I'm just OCD about those things and couldn't stand to release "un-optimized" content. You don't even have to do it but like I said, leaving your VTF's as eight-bit could make your file sizes larger and some people would be annoyed. It's definitely up to you though. However I've never heard of a tool that can batch flatten images in photoshop, so you're on your own for that lol.

It's not too bad since most are only 512^2 each vtf is about 342kb
142mb for the whole lot of them. It's not too bad since most are only 512^2 each vtf is about 342kb
Wtf. I was going to look up my own textures for comparison between yours and mine, but when I navigated to my HL2 directory under /steamapps/username/, everything was gone. Literally all the folders are still there but all the files in them are deleted, including my ME and RO2 textures I released a while back plus changes I made. Not to mention some Oblivion ports and the Metro LL ports I've been working on last month are gone too presumably due to the steam pipe conversion or whatever. Thanks valve. :/
what you can do is open those VMTs in notepad++, and use the search/replace tool (Ctrl+F), it's quick and easy.
