Updated OP: Banshee Friend gave me all the halo 2 original textures. This is what it looks like in-game now: This is what it looks like in halo 2: Obviously the original halo 2 texture is better than any of the failed attempts I made years back. As seen above.

:byodood: The artifacts are horrible. Why not make your own textures from scratch, rather than using halo 2's texture? [editline]15th October 2010[/editline] I'll see if I can do something.
:byodood: The artifacts are horrible. Why not make your own textures from scratch, rather than using halo 2's texture?
I am going for the halo type of look. Also, the Halo 2 street border original might look better than my shitty edit:

Anyone that remembers this road texture? It is 512x256 like the other original h2 texture I had back in that day.
Some good normalmaps, selfillum on the neonlights, detailtexture and envmap reflection with mask and it'll look ok edit: maybe stick to only one colour for the neon lights to make it less cartoony. Like, just blueish.

Make the blue darker and make it stand out less.
put this in the alpha channel of basetexture and add this to vmt: "$selfillum" 1 edit: nice work xemit, just wanted to make this. Tho, you should brighten the blue channel, you should never go darker than 128 for the blue channel. Plus I'm not sure about the mirroring of the right side you did, may give wrong lighting on that side.

Edit: Dark blue vs bright blue:
Ok dark actually does look better.
Then dark it is:
Ok dark actually does look better.
This texture's gonna turn out really great.
Ya, We gonna pimp it beyond recognition
Ya, We gonna pimp it beyond recognition
Banshee friend told me that he will get me the detail textures from halo 2. I doubt that it will work, but we will see.
Ah... well, damn, I was too slow now we have 2 huge res for super detail
Banshee friend told me that he will get me the detail textures from halo 2. I doubt that it will work, but we will see.
I'd say just use the HL2 standard metal detail texture. it's just perfect $detail detail\metal_detail_01 $detailscale 12 $detailblendfactor 0.6 $detailblendmode 0
I'd say just use the HL2 standard metal detail texture.
The halo 2 road texture has this round corner type of look. I was going for that in my low resolution. -Xemit- really got that round feel into his normal. Also the lines you got should not go over the neon lights and the other lower details. A thing that both of you do not have is this type of height increase in the neon lights that halo 2 got. Right when it goes lower it goes about as fast to near the same height then slowly climbing higher to the middle part of the neon light. Like lights use to be.
I'm gonna try and make you an ssbump texture. :v:
I'm gonna try and make you an ssbump texture. :v:
Sound nice.
Rename the thread to 'bumpmap competition' lol I don't think an ssbump is necessary tbh. It has mainly vertical and horizontal lines, standard normal map does the job for that perfectly. I'd use an ssbump for more complicated geometrical surfaces like rockwalls. Is up to personal favour I guess.
Rename the thread to bumpmap competition.
In 5... No, not really. Well I have not seen anyone that has edited the basetexture yet.
tbh though ssbump looks nicer. Its also cheaper to render for some reason.
I think that would be great if it was cheaper to render.
ssbump no bumpmap/normal map.
[IMG_THUMB]http://img209.imageshack.us/img209/4959/reflectiveexample0005.jpg[/img_thumb] ssbump [IMG_THUMB]http://img180.imageshack.us/img180/3356/reflectiveexample0004.jpg[/img_thumb] no bumpmap/normal map.
I think there is something wrong happening there.
I think whats really bothering me about this texture is that the whole road texture looks used, scratched up, and damaged. When I see the lights, they look too clean compared to the rest of the texture. Just my advice.

Then do it how it looks. Make the lights dirty. :smug:
Then do it how it looks. Make the lights dirty. :smug:
It still got the oh so low resolution Halo 2 512x256 base on that scratched parts. Would be better to fix it up to a clean and higher resolution look.
