I want to make a pretty cool Roleplay map for my server. But I just do not know where to start. I tried drawing it out, and I had a hard time with that.
How else can I start out? I need tips.
If you have problems coming up with ideas for mapping, then it probably isn't the job for you.
Start with doing research into what certain roleplay mods need. Every job in the mod, should have a building or two from where they can do business, maybe with a sign and everything.
Start with an arms dealing building or something, and work out into a street, add more buildings, functionality, plot everything out with blocks, think about a good spawn area, then detail the shit out of it.
I think it'd be best way:
Start with sidewalk and roads
Place lamps
Then walls/displacements (Anything) that covers map
Make builidings
Add some more detail
Making roads and sidewalk at the beginning helps since you get some kind of plan, you got some designed area you can't pass and it's quite helpful, worse if you want to place big builiding and you got small 128x128 'box' left, but it can be changed anytime right ?

How else can I start out? I need tips.[/QUOTE] first off ignore most people on here as if you do something they dont like in a map or its your first map they will reign hell fire and brimstone down upon you. (things like open spaces, non UK stuff, etc)
Listen to firegod on here and some select few others they seem mature enough to take seriously.
