Many of you probably know (or have guessed) I've made beginner tutorials for Hammer. When I was learning how to make maps I got most of what I needed from the Valve Developer Wiki's tutorial/description pages - filling in the gaps with tutorial videos here and there, by YouTubers whom I know receive all kinds of praise and/or criticism. Notice how one cannot live off video tutorials alone. Or can you?
I've been making these educative videos below because I believe I can offer a high level of inside tips and tricks like modifier keyboard buttons for texturing, or advice on how to balance lightmap grid sizes. Tutorial one dives right in with the bare-bones of Hammer, what stuff does, how to do pretty much everything like how to make your first brush entity - all within fifteen minutes. Other tutorials cover specific subjects like lighting psychology, creation of stairs and ladders, and 3D skyboxes.
Can I offer what the Valve Developer Wiki does? Hell no, but I can point beginners right to the articles (and other users' tutorials!) that will help them the most; I arrange it in a kind of "required reading" fashion in the video description. It's basically school all over again, only this time you're actually doing something productive and vaguely fun.
[B]You'll watch these if you are:[/B]
a) Starting out as a beginner mapper and have no idea what a "viewport" is
b) An experienced mapper who would like to learn lighting/texturing tricks, keyboard shortcuts, etc
c) Like me. Bored to death and searching the tubes for something better to do than getting sleep.
