It's my first map. Try not to be too hard. Buuuuut. my video editor thingy crashed on me 90% of the way through. So I'll maybe get a polished, commentaried version up eventually...maybe. And well, its released. Got a co op version ready too. I'd love to hear what you guys think based on the videos alone. Or you could download it from the workshop. Since it was my first map, it was a learning experience. Map probably isn't optimized all too well. And I don't really know what people mean when they say "The map is optimized" .. Many things could have been done better. Edit: I've reduced the number of brushes by a lot, nodrawed the hell out of everything, and tried adding some hint brushes. [b]If someone wants to play around with this map, toss me a PM and I'll see what I can do about giving you a copy. Always looking for feedback...[/b] The map is released in beta form on the workshop. There are two bugs no one on the internet seems to have encountered before....I think they may be engine problems, thus nothing I can do. The excursion funnels / light bridges are bugged.. They don't extend infinitely, and gel / other objects spaz out horribly when inside the funnel going certain directions. Edit: [b] Hey look its out. That is actually very impressive for a first map, well, actually, kinda amazing. You have a good mapping future ahead of you. Only thing I can say is that you have a lot of misaligned textures, but that is honestly pretty much it.

Took care of a lot of them in the current version.

It's basically a true sandbox map for Portal 2. It's a place where you can do kinda whatever, just kinda mess around with all the features that Portal 2 had. And, the fact that it's a first map makes it about 100% more awesome, because, by that video, which is outdated, you showed that you put a lot of work into it (and it also had a nice light_environment instead of being fullbright).

Adhesion gel, exploding footballs... Other things..
Really neat, would be fun to mess around with.
This is a great idea. Also gives me a good idea for a map of my own.
Just had a quick co-op game on it with the OP, it's actually a really fun map to play.

It's definitely got a long way to go before it's considered truly good.. But... it was my first map. And I'm really proud of what I've done with this. I didn't mean to come off as an ass. It's just nice to feel pride in something for once.

As for the playground style maps, look at portal playground, and compare that to this. The objective of the map [I]was[/I] to keep the similar layout, as clearly he's aiming for a playground-styled map.
Mr. Anonymous, there was no need to be like that. I personally didn't think he had any ego whatsoever. He made a good point, his first map is better than most other that show up on garrysmod.org. There's nothing wrong with being proud of what he's doing. He learned how to map, learned how things worked in Portal 2, and he had fun with it. Did you really have to start flipping out because he said it was good for a first map? Because in fact, it was good. It had a good idea behind it, and it seems like it's be fun to mess around in. And, in fact, he did accept criticism. He hasn't said once in this entire thread "NO MY IDEYA IS BETTAH STFU I KNOW WUT IM DOIN NOT JOO". He actually has taken criticism very well. Lay off him, it IS his first map, and pretty great for it. (also, once again, he actually used a light_env, and it wasn't completely white)

Hm... I thought it was a VERY LIGHT yellowish color or something, and the textures just made it more white than it it. Point is, the light_environment didn't make the map an eyesore. You didn't need to go into a huge rage fit over this map. He's trying. Sure, it's not the best map in the world, but for just learning how to use the Source Engine, it's pretty good. It's much better than my first map, and a lot of others too. You honestly had no right to be all high and mighty and go into a huge fit over something as simple as a map. He wasn't saying he's the best mapper ever. He knows there's improvement to be made, and he knows how to take criticism well. Basically, lay off him, he didn't do anything wrong. He made a thread, put his content in, he knows and made it clear that it's a work in progress, and for a work in progress, it's very good. Like the OP said in the edited first post, you didn't need to have your criticism on the map an attack on both him and the map. You'd come off a lot better if you had said what you wanted to say in a better way than how you said it. Every post, even to me, has been attacking someone, insulting them, saying their work is crap, etc. If that's your attitude on everything, then you need to grow up.

I've said i did a texture overhaul to eliminate the grey look. Oh, and the pointless room of many colors.... is very colorful. Also updated in the latest version.

You know seeing as it was made for "non-mappers" Pirate Jesus your map has everything people would want from a portal playground map, while I see little point in it being open air seeing as that wastes a lot of portal space, it is nowhere near deserving of what Mr Anonymous is making it out as, hang in there and work on presentation, do that and then harsh critics like Mr Anonymous won't have a leg to stand on!
You know what.. I'm tired of feeling down because some asshat with an ego of his own, who seems to think he's the sole judge on what's good or not called my map shit. Mr. Anonymous, my map isn't the best. I know that. But it is damn good for a first map. And keep in mind, I don't have all the skills more experienced map makers do. I'm just starting out. So judge my content as such. So you can go fuck yourself. Got it? I'm going to continue to work on this, and make it better. I will be taking feedback, and suggestions.
