Ladies and gentlemen, I would like to introduce to you my third ship. At over 7000 units long, over 700 units wide and over 1200 units high, she is exactly half the size of the Titanic. Equiped with all the luxuries of 1st, 2nd and 3rd class and the massive size to accommodate many souls, she is a proud and worthy ocean liner. Her name, is the RMS Valiant. ---------- She's strongly inspired by the Titanic, as you will see! She takes 24 minutes to sink completely, and she shares one key feature with the Titanic, I'll let you find out what that is! *Wink wink* As the biggest and by far most prestigious ship of the three, I feel this ship has the be the final in the series. I accomplished everything I wanted to do in this theme, I've achieved what I wanted. She uses absolutely everything Hammer (The Source mapping program) was able to provide, size wise. Anymore and the game could not run. She has a vast amount of custom content, a lot of which are models, which managed to provide great detail compared to the RMS Honourable, and also saved the map A LOT of fps. The fps on this map is actually much better than that of the Honourable map, due to much better optimization and mapping techniques. I hope the time and effort I put into this map will give you all a great experience, I really wanted it to be one of the best. This time round I'm not going to write a short story, I'll leave that up to you guys. I hope the ship tells a story to you! Here's a video demonstration made by SublimeNetwork... As well as a full length improvised comedy made by the KnightBrothers1st Here are some screenshots... It will definately make things more interesting. TO BEGIN: To start the sinking process, you must go to the Bridge, where the wheel is located. Press E (Use) anywhere on the wheel and get your life jacket ready! BE WARNED: This can be quite a hefty map to run on some computers, if you do not have a good computer, do not expect good performance. TO AVOID GETTING STUCK: I have done my best to make this ship as player friendly as possible, but I can only do so much with the Source Engine. You will be prone to getting stuck on this map as the ship lurches more and more, using crouch and jump is a good way to break out of this. Crouching + Noclipping can also prove a smooth way to "Pretend" to move through the ship as it sinks. DO OR DIE: If you're going to publically show this map in ANYTHING, PLEASE give me the credit. I put a lot of effort and time into this map. --------------------------------- Very Special thanks to... Callinstead - For advice, patience and some custom textures. Freakysoup - For his vast knowledge of the maritime theme and his technical contribution. Sir Pinecleandog - For many custom textures, despite being very busy with other projects. NassimO - For many custom textures, also while being very busy with other projects. Oskutin - For technical mapping advice and patience. And thank you to all the fans of my series of maps, with out the feedback and uplifting comments you guys gave I probably never would have got this far. I dedicate this ship to you all! If there is anyone I missed, please let me know.
The interior shots remind me a lot of that one titanic game. Well done, gonna download this now. It's nice to see a sinking ship map where the water doesn't simply move up.
Is it fullbright?
No, but the lightmaps are very high on a lot of textures. They have to be for a map this big and dynamic to compile.
That ship is dynamic object, so it will compile with just direct lighting. Ambient and bounces are not compiled.
I've added some videos, one's a demonstration by SublimeNetworks which I strongly recommend watching. The images show barely any of the action that this map is about. The other is a little improvised comedy by the KnightBrothers1st, it has a lot of interior footage as well.
Wicked job on the map, man! Glad I was able to help.
This map makes me sad. Good job on it.
Very nice, though to be honest, I was expecting the Valiant from Doctor Who :v:
Looks great man congrats!
Well done! cant wait to try it up! There was an older one i saw, this one seem to be updated and better.
