What does the Garry's Mod community look for in a map? I don't mean this as a simple open-ended question asked a million times over. I mean this as in what type of gameplay do people look for? I play casually, meaning, I never spend too much time on one specific gamemode to understand exactly what everyone looks for. But what I do notice is these couple of specifics I would like to see answers for: 1) Why is it that in Dark RP, maps that are extremely plain, like "rp_downtown" far exceed highly detailed maps, like "rp_forks" and "rp_c18"? How come EvoCity, a well detailed map will an extreme amount of amenities is not as popular as downtown? 2) Why do minecraft maps in TTT exceed other maps, when there are other maps with excellent traitor traps and detail? Minecraft is great and all but is there something these maps are doing that other maps are not? It can't just be the "theme" of the map only... Right? I'd love to see what thoughts you all have, so that I can consider it in my mapping and perhaps release my next big hit. I'm finished with the Tornado Series and would like to try some new things. I have a roleplay idea planned, but as the most intense and time consuming type of map, I'm wanting to find out what makes these maps popular.

Thank you, Ronan! That link is very good read.
me personally, simple sandboxes with variety. water, space to build, a few houses to scenebuild. thats the stuff. especially if it gives off that gmod 11 vibe.
