I found this Site by accident while looking at modelling videos on YouTube. It's a pretty neat tool that allows you to take a height map picture of any real world location that you set. Here's an example: First drag this blue box where ever you want, I set it to 20 Km but it starts at a default of 18: [T]https://puu.sh/vaHuh/b3cb148a07.jpg[/T] Then click the cloud on the right. I got this output image here: [T]https://puu.sh/vaHSK/69b6b80343.png[/T] It actually gives you 5 separate images. You'll end up downloading a .zip file, and it will be full of .pngs. The image above is merged with all 5 images, which is included in each download. I've been have a bit of fun with it, but nothing of substance just yet. Also, a hint, if you want to have actual numbers to work with when importing the height map, select this option here: [T]https://puu.sh/vaI8Q/7257ee001c.png[/T] It will provide you with actual elevation lines and numbers and they're absolute as well, which is nice. (I really need to make sure I title caps threads..)

Terrain.Party has been serving the Cities: Skylines community (and anyone needing a front-end to USGS maps) for just over two years. By the way, those lovely topographic heightmaps are mainly only for US locations; outside the country you get OSM with mostly no height data.
It's kinda amazing how the heightmap in the OP looks somewhat artificial even though it's scanned from real life.
