Quit the game and restart your steam.
i did it 10 times already
weird, verify your game files.
it happened after restart today, my friends have the same problem i will try files verification
They may be releasing an update very soon in which that's why it states "update your game" - you should still try to verify your files too though.
verify didnt work, and as you can see there are some players online somehow
Just to say, your trying to join "staging", which is the next stage update... are you running the staging branch?
i dont know what is this staging so i probably dont use it xD but i played on this server earlier, before restart
