I play solo, mostly. I don't like the average Rust player at all, so i like to play alone. It's really hard in Rust with all the clans and groups running around with explosives and stuff and take down any building i make just cuz they want to look if i happen to have anything. Building a base would be nice if it could be hidden better, Like dig a hole in the ground and make a real bunker or so with tunnels for escape exits.
I have build big and strong bases and small, Even building small and far away and between rocks, were u might think it's hidden. Nope it's not, some random guy will run by get his friends and for some reason want to destroy it in hopes of finding the holy grail or whatever.
Also... crawling? I don't understand why its not possible to crawl, its really weird to me.
Just looking for some sneaky options, it's extremely important for the solo player more than anyone else. Maybe there's plans for something like this already?
I know forums and this is Rust community so here's some notes to avoid some issues...
This is my opinion, My opinion does not have to be the same as yours.
Never mind why i don't like them, it's not what this is about.
I don't mind PVP at all.
There's nothing wrong with clans or groups.
Go play on lowpop server: Yes i am already.
gitguuud: git lost.
More than once while solo, I would have liked to place some camouflage around my small forge in a nook somewhere so me and the low light it emits be masked better. Something like cutting branches from some trees or even bushes and placing them at will and having to replace them in 2 days because they wither..
On the line of underground shelter, I was thinking of a sort of storage box placed underground, similar to the stash but with bigger quantity, that takes longer move the cover and that might be discovered by the sound of a step over it (perhaps?)
Since guys with explosives will crack my shiny base open, blow the TC and make my base go poof! in 4 hours , I am disinterested (is that a word??) in loosing time doing the same shit again and again...
PS: loved the last line!
I somewhat agree but it seems the devs have taken any thing that "hides" loot out of the game or made them so obvious that they aren't worth using.
Ex; Small stashes are only good for a quick stash till you come right back to retrieve it. Why even bury them when anyone can accidentally find it by walking over it. If the "popping up" function was removed but spam clicking the ground looking for them worked...it would make them somewhat viable yet not OP as they can still be found. Yes...Found, not stumbled upon by complete accident...
Ex; The hammer showing durability and stability for a raider is BS. There is literally no good way to hide loot inside your base that doesn't have a huge draw back. Yes i have found a few ways and some are pretty decent but they all have a big weakness.
Without giving my secrets away, there are ways to hide stuff in your base but the prox damage from explosives and/or the hammer mostly nullifies all of the methods. Well that and youtube... -_-
I think a huge help for bases in general would be: Hammer only shows info of base pieces IF the person has TC access. The new half walls have made some clever ways to store loot, but no half-wall methods are worth a sh*t due to the hammer (even on the ground floor of base?!)
Currently, the only way to kind-of secure loot inside a base is to overbuild, build cancer bases that make no sense or use sketchy methods that will most likely get "fixed"/removed. Cuz lets face it, hatches are weak and a dead give away, rugs break with explosives and most people aren't that stupid, and if stability doesn't add up then its a dead give away something is hidden.
And don't tell me "Traps MageTrixx, use traps" Every trap is easily drained or destroyed with a few bullets/melee.
And btw, I'm with you on solo play. I end up playing with someone for a week or 2 then i cant take it anymore and i branch off/leave the main base and build my own base.
Mark, add me on steam if you want(if not that is ok). Seems you are a Solo Loot Nazi just like me, maybe we could collaborate. Hell, I've spent about 20 hours in the last 3 days on creative servers just testing/tweaking ideas and tricks i have found with B3.0. I could show you the 4 or 5 methods I use that are close to fail safe, as i wont post them here. Same name on steam.
Interesting info...
I haven't really met many bases where loot was hidden, (plus replacing TC to let the base decay does the trick) I play vanilla official. Of course i mostly fight with other solo/duo players, so potentially I've been jus running into noob/intermediate players and not so many "pros".
I have added you on Steam as well.
uhm :/
I don't think you should necessarily be worrying about this as of right now. We're just about to get out of Early Access so we should see more unique features being worked on for the game, likely something related to how a player can act more stealthy or other forms of communication.
Base decorations have always been a big aspect of concepts and worked upon all the time by Facepunch, and I'm sure that could intertwine with base camouflage and could be seen in the future.
I've always liked the idea that maybe we could paint/ put a canvas over our base to blend it in with the scenery around it or customise different bushes and trees around it to make it more hidden. It'd be another way to buff the ordinary small groups or solo players and wouldn't also work as a buff to clans just because the fact of the matter is that if you build big, you're never going to be able to hide. If you build small, you can use your smarts to protect your base with traps, camouflage and location.
