Does the server actually need to be updated since my friends can play fine but i cant
Depending on the specific error you receive when you get the 'connection protocol' message, it will ultimately end up being one of two things:
You need to update your RUST client because the server has already updated to the latest version (You control this.)
The server you're attempting to connect to needs to update to the latest version, as their's a mismatch (The server admins control this.)
If you post the full error you receive next time, it'll be easier to answer with the specific solution.
