People are quiting because of upkeep. Literally have been told I would rather masturbate with a cheese grater and hot sauce then continue to play this way.
Eh, Nan. Rust Numbers talk louder than words.
ARK has more players and it is the only game I have ever refunded.
yes so true the fun as gone to the point players get disheartened when they loose all there stuff with these decay mechanics in place not to mention not been able to acquire most of the decent loot that you paid decent money for skins
ye..+. the upkeep system is not very convenient. although it looks like a novelty.
I mean January had a high of 67k players, which is the highest it's been in a while. Ofc if you're looking at the "today" itll be low, it's Wednesday what do you expect.
I like to jump from server to server and talk to players to ask what they think of the game if they are new. One thing I have heard it that they think the community is pretty toxic. However, I sometimes think that they get being KOS'd as being part of the toxic community, when in reality it is part of Rust. Yet I don't think it hurts to help out other players. I came across a new player that needed help. So I showed him the ropes of the game and got him started. He told me he was planning on returning the game, because no one was willing to help him understand the game (this was before tutorials were added). He decided to keep playing since I helped him. Also, I think one thing that needs to be asked is what audience is Rust aimed at? Is it people that like to play on it 4 hours a day? Is it people with a full time job and married life?
Right now it is people who like to farm nodes all day and night to pay the Tool cupboard. I mean Toll cupboard. It really sucks now. TC upkeep, Scrap farming, component farming, and resource farming. It is never ending.
You are right that it is never ending, but doesn't that depend on the size of your base? If you have a small stone base, putting in a few thousand stone and some wood would give you at least a couple of days of to do what you want. Now, if it is ok, I would like some clarification. My apologies if I make some incorrect assumptions. I am amusing that from your response, you are not happy with all the farming going on in this game. If that is the case, is it the constant demand for materials you are unhappy with, the rate they are gathered, or what options there are to get the materials (such as their is farming, raiding, or purchasing supplies from shops)? What would rather be doing in Rust?
If you didn't get pick raided or spear raided with your starter stone base. Sure. Just fill up the TC. I do it day one flame, raid, shotgun raid, bone club raid. You are not safe unless it is metal and multiple airlocks. We raided every base withing 15 squares with spears and pipe shitguns. It is clear a small base is not good enough and a large base cost too much.
hey trash kiddie, you still here? Can I have your stuff? Stop skipping school, dodgy teenager...mommy will be angry soon... you're still a trash troll This troll has no idea what "Wednesday" means in Rust (esp before a major update) - he is just happy he got to skip school.
You could always create your own server and disable upkeep? RUST Decay Upkeep Variable, Hints and Tips There are servers out there that disable it as well. Just search for them in the browser.
I don't wan't to be the bad person, but maybe you should check his way of posting in multiple threads. It's been told multiple times by captain russia, me and others, but he just keeps posting like this, what triggers bad reactions from some people, included myself to be honest.
It's not like that. When you go to "All" it returns results from the previous month. So if it says January that means Start of December to the Start of January. https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/133514/89b0359a-bf62-4324-91c4-87392150884f/image.png Rust has indeed halved+ in player base, hitting a new low since 2015. It's funny though, just until yesterday I was telling people how Rust has a solid player base, and now that the latest update in the chart is out the results seem bad. OP might be on to something.
It IS a survival game...
I'm more fcked up with the BP's wipe that the upkeep. I you don't have a big base you don't have upkeep ez. Now start doing a revolution about BP's instead!
No one reads your posts you shitter. All you do is hide and farm. Yeah your good.
As a solo player, I love the upkeep system. Especially since they reinforce the sheet metal walls. Build small and smart. Up all to sheet and you can easily farm half an jour for 4-5 days of Tc worth. If I remember correctly, the point in Upkeep was to prevent people from building stupid large base with 0 defense aside from lots of walls to destroy. No one can build an unraidable base. If you build smart, multiple bases. You will do fine.
And a clan like mine would blow through it in first week. Solos always have good shit.
And a clan like mine would blow through it in first week. Solos always have good shit. Your point being that without the upkeep system i would be better off? Without the upkeep, I would be able to build bigger yes, but so does any clan. A bigger base meens more farm just to be able to make it. Then what ... I want to raid even if I'm solo ... but every base around me would be like 10-12 doors to loot ... so even more farm just to be able to raid anyone. With the upkeep, ya you can raid me. Clans will always have an edge. But at least, my 7-8 doors base with a super low upkeep will take me very little farm for upkeep and your 12-14 doors base will take way more. The upkeep is progressive and punish bases the bigger they get. In the end, I will be able to loot decaying base or raid other solo players base because they kept it small too to avoid big upkeeps. Nothing is ever perfect, but the upkeep system is far from a bad idea in my opinion.
Most of my bases last days, if not weeks, with a full TC under the current system. If one has a huge base, I can understand if it might last only three or four days, but that's still better than the previous system that would start damaging a base after 12 to 18 hours without logging in. And if one has a base that's larger than that, then at that point one should be working with other players to maintain it, and not just relying on protecting it by their lonesome. If one's central interest in the game is just straight up building huge creative bases, then there are servers with settings and mods applied that are intended to support that too. It's certainly a new meta, and I'm sure that some players have decided to take a break, but based on the numbers of players continuing to log in day after day, there's clearly been no mass exodus. It's been almost two months, so one would expect that if the player base was going to take a hit, we'd certainly have seen a trend by now. Instead, clans are adapting, and players are learning new base designs and strategies. On average, folks are just dealing with it rather than leaving.
Yeah, december are dark days where almost everyone wants some distraction from their toughts and the christmas bull$h!t lol. Around that type of days you always see a high-point in players, and in january everyone takes a break because after new-year, for most people the daily grind of working / going to school begins again. Taking stats of that period to prove that rust is "dying" is not reliable.
Very good observation. When school is out and the holidays hit, the amount of people playing video games does increase.
Thanks for saying what I've been thinking. That guy responds on nearly every thread and it's overwhelmingly negative most all the time. Guys like that are not an asset to a growing community, they are a liability and will cause people to judge everyone by running across his passive aggressive and judgy demeanor and think it's just another toxic board.
Rust would be perfect if they roll back to the blueprint system but keep the current decay thing with cupboards. It was also a year where people played this game the most. That system worked, sure it could've used some polish but it was better than components, they aren't as bad as EXP system was (lmao wtf was that) but it's sure isn't better or ever will be...
Fake news! The image that was posted, the mouse is highting one of the last days of January. Rust wipes are cyclical and with them the playerbase. The start of a wipe, the game is indundated with people, then the numbers drop off gradually throughout the month as people get raided and quit. It has always been this way. Start of November 2017 Peaks of 57K and lows of 33K End of November 2017 Peaks of 46K and lows of 32K Start of December 2017 Peaks of 60K and lows of 36K End of December 2017 Peaks of 52K and lows of 40K Start of January 2018 Peaks of 67K and lows of 43K End of January 2018 Peaks of 50K and lows of 37K The *peak* players for the highest month in 2015 was 38K (December), peek players of course would have been the start of the month. So what...we're comparing that to peaks of 57-67k?? Upkeep has been in for two months now and the average players are still climbing.
"I like what it does to other people, I don't like what it does to me." Hmm...that is a very interesting way of looking at features to a game. What I mean that is that feature that is included into a game that seems to better the game as a whole, rather than focus on the view of one individual. Interesting...
Agree, this game has turned into a farming nightmare. All I do is run around and farm. As a player with a smaller group this game is nearly impossible to play now. I spend the vast majority of the time just trying to make sure my base isn't mostly decayed while the bigger groups run around raiding everybody who's decayed. Stupid.
I am solo player. i make bases with two floors (with metal and stone walls) and a stone watchtower. Is fucking easy keep the upkeep updated. Fucking easy. Just pick two rocks, and melt one metal vein and you will have a 24h+ upkeep ratio. Playing with a group of mates, cant be more difficult.
The only people whining would be the Millennial's that never worked for anything in their life, and want a trophy for failing! Build a base make sure it has resources, this is a necessary mechanic to prevent 300 bases in a game abandoned! I admit decay can be annoying maybe lowering it but it must remain! You don't want to farm mats go play CSGO!
