Something i've always respected about facepunch is they're willing to take risks and experiment. They're also willing to admit when those experiments suck. helks tweet "xp system sux so hard" is evident of that. While this forum is full of threads with clear and obvious reasons why the upkeep system is currently bad for rust its also equally full of strange people white knighting those changes. Any veteran player can tell you the rocket cost of a base by looking at it, mix in the new upkeep system and any 40+ rocket base becomes realistically untenable with this new system, this in turn makes clan wars quick, bitter and boring.
So why do i even bother making this thread? i don't know, i had this idea in my head that when the game was leaving early access they'd patch out the awful change to coincide with the launch. Yes i'm sure they mean well with upkeep, it's a nice thought. But it really ends up being anti-fun, exploitable and ruins the end game. Your home on rust is the core mechanic of the game and it feels poisoned right now.
it's saddening that this mechanic will also be representing the launch state of rust to new players, while the changes to wooden key locks will definitely help newcomers, these are truly dark days for clans on official severs and will definitely be even more bleak for nakeds.
+1
i agree. now it seems like there is no creative freedom anymore. building ridiculous was fun but now you can’t because you have to worry about upkeep. sad times.
-there where people "Clans/Hackers" joining servers built insanely big buildings, and then left after it got booring and never came back.
No more big skyscraper bases that will basicly make lagg on the servers.
It makes people to be more active ingame, and atm it is so cheap that you can easily add stuff to the cupboard so your base is safe for 3days. in my opinion "To easy"
now we have small bases/big bases that will decay over time and will make the servers feel more clean/fresh and probly performence will be better now to vs the old system.
White knighting? If police and the justice system says that "crime and felonies" are bad - and I agree and support them - does that make me "someone who is White Knighting police"? Or does that simply make me a person with common sense and a good law abiding citizen?
This forum is not FULL of these negative threads...there is maybe 3-4 floating around at most... stop spreading misinformation!
Huh? What are you smoking!?! 40+ rockets? First of all a 40+ rocket base is insane...and would be pretty much unkillable (god mode) for any smaller 1-2-3 man teams... good riddance!
The idea with Building 3.0 was that no base can be made "immune" to any kind of threat, no matter how small - even a solo player should be a threat to a big clan (a very small threat), which was not attainable with the old system when 40+ rocket bases were being erected on day 2 after wipe (and a solo guy could barely amass 8 satchels on day 2)
Second of all - as a big clan, you can still build 40+ rockets base...so for those who want to, its still doable. You cant make it all out of stone anymore, but its easily attainable by mix/matching stronger materials like metal + armor and getting a bit more creative (yes yes, the "creativity"!) with your base builds.
Not really...unless you're a salty clan or someone with no skill of building who used to "size-proof" you bases by building a 7x7x7 "skyscraper" base on day 2 post-wipe and laughing at everyone because anyone with 8-12 satchels couldn't do jack shit to you, not until a week or 2 of amassing sulfur, at which point your base would grow to 10x10x10 tripple-honeycombed...
ugh? Completely disagree. Building 3.0 is all about creativity! No longer can any average joe with no building skill make a 7x7x7 base on day 2 of wipe. You actually have to know what you're doing and be creative!
Making a 7x7x7 base = no skill and no creativity. Any retard could slap a bunch of squares together...
Making a 2x2 that takes 30+ satchels to get in (with stone + metal) and potentially 80+ satchels if you go for armor is creativity at its finest!
3.0 reintroduced skill to the building meta... amen to that!
While it is true that upkeep system makes it difficult maintain huge huge castle-like bases, that does mean that they have been removed from the game. There are many community or modded servers that either have decay slowed or completely disabled. Just search the servers by typing "decay" or "upkeep". I found some that way.
We have a few legit castles on the server right now.
oh they are definitely "free" to play in the old and outdated meta... the problem with that is the longer these people refuse to accept the new meta (and its still evolving, believe me!) - the harder it will be for them come into official vanilla and play.
These people playing on the no-upkeep servers will be the ones coming here in the future crying how upkeep is terrible as they cant "size-proof" their base no longer on vanilla by building a 5x5x5 on day 1...
