Hey, pretty new to the game, i understand how to do the basic stuff (build a base, staying alive and such), but I want to learn more.
Does anyone like to share their knowledge about how do get high-end gear and stuff?
any tips are appreciated, thanks ^^
Join a huge group/zerg or just stop playing already. Solo/small group play is dead from recent updates.
The best recommendation I can give you is to seek out a few YouTubers, specifically the ones who will play solo, such as Welyn, hJune, or others. You'll see what can be achieved with just a crossbow/bow. Also, SLEEPING BAGS. Make sure you have multiple outside your base hidden away, so you have plenty of respawn options. Make sure you can use
Anyone who says solo play is dead (like comment above) is just wrong.
Just stay away from the official servers, solo isn't too bad depending on the server you choose and as said above watch some youtubers to get some different idea's on how to play the game.
Wish you good drops mate
Build a base that takes more to get into it than they get out. This works best if you enjoy building, I suppose, but its what I do.
Be friendly on the server in chat, talk a lot, make some friends. Once you have a few guys who know you, and preferably base with, you'll find things a bit easier. If it helps, set up a little trade window, one of the metal ones, so you can sit there and dicker with people. Having a little community of allies around does wonders. It can mean much safer farming, or even co-op raiding/defending if you have to. Doesn't mean you have to let them into your base or anything. That's a fun and important aspect.
It especially works well if you play a server often, because people will get to know you.
Build a base next to a place where you can easily go loot and get stuff, near light towers is pretty good place so you can go resycle from time to time.
Just start with a simple 1x1 base and work up from there.
Crossbow is da way to go, but i prefare the bow.
Also make sure to go out on a tour, there is always some base that is decaying, you never know what you can find in the base.
Also make sure to scout out areas, wait some minutes and look around before you go looting.
Good Luck!
forgot if you craft a lvl1 workbench you can get the revolver, the revolver have 4 shots in it when you craft it, you can the build a researchtable and reasearch the ammo..
Thank you all for all the tips
How about getting more advance gear? after the first stage of establishing yourself, any tips?
Build near monuments where military crates spawn (green crates), also a recycler to get enough scrap to research. If you have any questions about basic gameplay etc i recommend finding a small group to play with but dont go more than 4 players in a group
yeah I heard solo is amazing if you play on a dead server...
On a more serious note:
1) Play vanilla official. Its the most hardcore mode of the game, but it will actually teach you how to play the game through your struggles. Play some modded crap (and more so - without understanding what the mods even do) - and gimp yourself forever. You can def try out other modded servers - just keep vanilla as your "main" style of play and you should be good. Definitely play "sandbox creative" build servers (unlimited resource/items/freebuild) to practice and understand base building + strengths and weaknesses.
2) Be able to read the map. This is probably #1 skill anyone starting out should hone. Before you even start building or farming or PVPing - being able to read the map and know where to build is like #1 priority. A perfect location can make or break your entire gameplay for the rest of the wipe.
3) Learn how to build. Watch some youtube vids. PVP can come later. If you can read the map and be a good (defensive/offensive) builder - u can be a bad PVP-er, but at least you'll have your base and loot and be able to go out and practice PVP more. If you lose all your shit because you lack #2 and #3 - you won't have a chance to learn PVP.
4) Probably trust no-one, but more so - be able to read people and their actions. Be friendly, but stay alert and reserved. Never give up your base codes unless its to people with whom you played over multiple wipes, and even then - at your own discretion.
5) PVP - Im still a noob, but all I can say is dont try to get into long engagements. Especially as a solo. Long engagements tend to "chain" more players to the sound of gunshots (like zombies in all those movies) and you'll just get swarmed. Get in, get some shots, and get out. Don't get greedy. Set FOV to max - 85 to see more around yourself, but feel free to adjust it to something different. I prefer 85.
6) PVP.2 - pick a specific gun/weapon and try to stick with it to practice. Dont jump all over the place. Use sandbox freebuild servers to spawn in guns to at least get the feel for their sway/recoil/reload timers. I would recommend learning weapons in following order (vanilla):
bow,
xbow,
revolver,
SAR/python (altho Im starting to lean more towards python now)
The rest doesn't really matter, but probably AK.
On modded none of these probably matter, because you can get AK on like day 3 and bypass 80% of the game.
Everything CaptainRussia said is good advice - everyone needs to have played official for a while at least at the start to get grounded in the game. If Rust is for you you'll end up knowing what you want out of the game and either stay on offiicals, or find servers that better suit how you want to play the game.
The tip above about having a small shack near lighthouse was a very good point. The boxes and barrels respawn after 10 minutes i think, and there's a chance of a military crate at the top too. You can just keep going back and recycling everything you find and don't need on your way back down. I also like to have a small base near dome, as 4 military crates on top of it, is amazing. And free refinery + red barrels there.
Also my personal tips - have at least 1 locker in the base, they are very underrated and if you are killed, you can respawn and instantly equip a full gear set and go back outside if you set them up beforehand, even if it just 3 gear sets of wooden armor and a bow and arrows. Your best chance of getting a higher tier item apart from military crates and elite crates, is going out with a crossbow and hunting down a geared guy.
And finally - DO NOT research every gun and item you find. SAVE your scrap and research the things you like most, or are relatively low cost to make. For example, if I research a custom SMG, then I have no need to ever research the MP5 because the smg is cheaper and fires same bullets. But it depends what gun or item you personally like over other ones. Prioritise your research and don't waste scrap, spend it smartly on researching things you will be able to make.
