• Does the Helicopter feel too weak?

I was playing on a fully vanilla server, asides from two-week wipe cycles. Day one of the BP wipe, a group took down the helicopter within the first 3 hours of the server being up. To be honest, this seems ridiculous, and when I asked them about it, they said its because "there's no threat or risk". They simply de-auth on the TC in their "Heli base", and all the Helicopter will do is shoot fire rockets, but not damage buildings. I feel like this system could be revamped. Taking on the helicopter should be a RISK; its fine if it can be taken down by 2-3 guys with semi-auto rifle's, but there should be a serious sense of danger. What about if: -You have EVER auth'd on a TC, and aggro the helicopter, it'll rocket-barrage -Any buildings without a TC will be rocket-barrage'd -Freshly built TC's without any auth's on them will be rocket-barrage'd. I found it hilarious how, within 3 hours, 3 guys with 3 semi rifles took down the helicopter, a supposed "Big-game" event and profited immensely (They said they got rockets and C4 out of it, of which I'm not sure if they did or not). I've played over 1,100 hours of rust, and I've taken down the helicopter ONCE. I was under the assumption it was a whirly bird of "Don't fuck with". I may be alone in this regard, and if so, feel free to tell me that, but I feel like the Helicopter is just a giant loot box; NOT a risk vs reward thing.
well seems like this is kind of an exploit and potentially needs to be patched? I have 650-ish hours and I have not taken down a heli yet, not even once.
then people can just attract the heli to bases and blow them up with just rockets than miss a simple 1x1
not sure what this is directed at? I was proposing a fix, not to create another exploit. Obviously whatever fix they do would have to be well thought out and tested...
I agree, CaptainRussia. The helicopter is plenty strong as it is, it can take a beating and is very dangerous, but there's little to no personal risk. You make a tower and shoot from it. If you die, you respawn and get your stuff; - The helicopter will most likely go down near your base/compound, so any looters are at an extreme disadvantage. If people had to rebuild or fortify their heli-taking towers, or possibly lose the entire tower due to making a mistake, they *MIGHT* be less inclined to destroy it as soon as possible. I enjoy the helicopter early and mid game; it means I can go out safely with a bow and (most likely) not get mowed down. But on the server (fully vanilla, again) I was playing on, it would go down within minutes of spawning, depending on where it patrolled to; - By groups of 3-5 people, not giant clans. This happened day one. It really is disheartening for people to get such late-game gear so quickly, every time. I've observed this numerous times. I, too, feel like its an exploit. The only reason it flame-barrages (Which doesn't damage buildings) is to prevent people from getting the Helicopter to attack other people's bases, but I hope the few suggestions I laid out would fix that. I'd *LOVE* if I could witness a clan make a mistake and have their heli tower blown away, it means I could run in and scavenge some stuff from them, or shoot them while they're exposed!! But I'd love more opinions on the subject.
