this is just a complementary tutorial you can see the main information here A Complete Guide to Full Scene Rendering in Garry's Mod
and here Z-Depth in Garry's Mod (Tutorial/Discussion) - Stuff You've Made..
this is how i make some dof in gmod using photoshop, the photoshop is in portuguese
but it don't matter
you must do a fog configuration like tihs

the far object must be black and the near must be white, sometimes the color differences betwen close props can make a difference as you can see one of the ragdolls is brither than the
others this will make the blur stronger so you need to avoid this. just slide the fog end bar until you get the best config.

when you're done with you light passes you need to select that layer

then you need to paste in the alpha layer

then just align the layer. select to show all rgb layers and the apha then you will se a red fog
zoom in and select everything, drag carefuly until everything is aligned

now just set the DoF as you wish. click anywere in the scene to focus and configure the blur
now you made a scenic DoF
