Hello Guys!
So i keep getting this on my mind all the time, i have played alot or "enough" Dayz Mod back in the days..
What was good with Dayzmod was the PVP's, but without an compass information it was a deathbed for you and for the team, you could be the only one knowing where the sniper shots came from, and with that information you could start your searching for that ennoying sniper on the hill.
To be the only person to know where the shots came from, was a big information boost for you and the team.
I have watched alot of Rust Stream lately and they all come to the same problem when they get raided or when shots fired, they all stand there like ? for seconds, and in pvp the seconds is the time that counts.
So i would want to suggest an simple Compass system to make the game even better:
Suggestion 1.
It could be craftable, but i dont think that's a good idea at all, it will turn out like the map-crafting thing we hadd back in the days, but it could be better/worse to have the option to equip/look and hide the compass from the inventory.
Suggestion 2.
Have the compass in the top middle screen that works with the rest of the Hud, the compass can be toggle on/off in the Options menu.
add a Slider that will make the Hud/Compass be almoust invisible/visible "see thru style".
I made a picture on paint just to show you a little on what im talking about with the suggestion 2, i belive myself that would be the best thing, instead of having it on the sides or at the bottom. This style could also work with the Map. so when you press G the compass will be visible in the top middle.

Also the compass thing should not be like an exp: A stripper on stripclub.. Something you can't take your eyes off basicly..
Enyways
My english is something the cat found, not good at all.. i just hadd to take this idea from my brain and put it out here, mabe or hopefully someone could implement or work something out with this.
Bye
wrong forum btw, however I do kinda agree, not for like finding you house or anything just for callouts, you can say like east 260 or something, idk but i would find that useful
yeah idk in what section of the forum i would put this..
but enyways exactly! would not help soloplayers that mutch, but would make teamfights more interesting, pretty common nowdays to teamup with someone, so what would be better to tell where the shots came from to your friend/friends, you never know, it could save the base and the team!
i have watched trausi and other streamers alot of time, and when they fight with the team they always have that issue to pinpoint where the shots came from, same if someone of them dies and they respawn running back to base, they sometimes mistakes them from being an enemy, would be mutch better if we could tell them that we are coming from south east and "no" it was not me that was shooting you from East.. exp..
Basicly, if you are defending the base or fighting with your team, it would be nice to have a compass.
I agree with a craftable compass that needs to be equipped in your hand for you to properly indicate directions.
++ great idea bro, gj
i think it wouldt add much to the game because you already have a map and all you need to do is press g and you already know where you are instantly but its a cool idea tho
explaine to me how you point out where an enemy is in seconds to your friend? G20 is not gona say mutch to your friend, but north-east 10 o'clock will be more useful and mutch faster then to describe everything to your friend, also at night the compass will be "very usefull"
i just think that using adding a compus to the game would make the map almost compleaty useless you need to have some challenge in the game
I actually partly agree with you on this. Having people automatically start out with a compass would make navigation too simple.
Now if the compass was something you had to research, craft, only be able to look at by pressing a key or selecting it, then I would agree.
Also, I do agree that the map does make the idea of including a compass rather...redundant.
Remember, if you @Samdaman want to add something into the game it needs to have a purpose and a reason why people would want to use it.
However @parzival7 , Rust itself is a harsh game. Isn't it part of the game to cratf things to make things useful so things are not as harsh for the player? I don't agree with making things easy on the get go, but I really don't have that much of an issue with adding things into the game that a player can work towards to make the game easier (except craft-able mining quarries. Glad those are gone).
yeah i agree with that how you have to make it but make it a level 1 work bench maybe on an off chance level 2 but i do agree
just like real life, you have a map and a compass to know what direction to take/look. game itself without talking about the map is already way to challenging, specialy for the new people. Would just make it more playable, as i said, you need to teamup with people nowdays due to the clans that destroy the servers and roofcamping spawnpoints, so a compass would not make the game un challenge it would make it easier to tell your friend where this team of 5 shoot from.
enyways.. good night
i am surprised to see why still it's not been added to the game. it should have been done long ago.
Consider your prayers answered, with the next update there will be a new HUD addition. A non craft able compass.
HUD Compass
Helk is experimenting with a HUD based compass. Similar to Fortnite, it shows up on the top center of the screen and points at your current heading (North, South, East, West, and degrees in between).
This is not a craftable, rather, it’s a new addition to the in game GUI (like the map). I asked Helk if he was thinking of tying it to an item you have to carry. He said, ‘Horse shit’ - so yeah, I don’t think it’s going to be part of an item any time soon.
From a community perspective, this compass has received mixed reviews. Some are very happy at the idea of callouts being much easier (i.e. There’s a naked by the tree around 280). Others worry this is just another thing which breaks immersion and caters to large groups.
Although I agree this will come much more in handy when you are in a group as opposed to solo (unless you like to call out specific locations to yourself), I don’t really think any benefit provided is anything to get worked up about. With regards to immersion, I agree, and think it’d be nice to have the option turn it off while leaving the rest of the HUD on.
This is why I think having this be a crafted item would be a nice compromise. If you don’t want it, don’t craft it. And, for groups to gain from it, they have to make sure they are all equipped with one.
As stated above, I hope this is something you can toggle on or off... Cause I see no benefit in this, not for me anyway.

Better for atmosphere.Should be animated without hud.
Exactly, I'd much prefer it off my screen and only craft able... That Minecraft compass though >.<
i just watched SHADOWFRAX video and saw the thing i tottally forgot about the thread i made, been playing dota2 basicly everyday now.. enyways, pretty cool they added exactly how i described it
thanks to him i would probly never checked the forum

Why do we even need compasses and maps? Just go to Launch site or a few other monuments, the rest of the map is irrelevant.
for information ofc
on a tactical standpoint/teamplay it is a must.
if you dont like it, don't use it and just turn it off
