A World Without Electricity - A Post-Apoc Nation RP - Games

[img]http://i.imgur.com/2P4JUUI.jpg[/img] Ten years ago, a massive solar flare hit the Earth and fried all unprotected electronics across the globe, causing mass panic and hysteria. Before repair efforts could be made in North America, federal governments began falling apart, unable to control the land grabs and rebellions from radical parties. In time, the United States of America had ceased to exist as an entity. It has been a decade since that fateful event, and the only remainders of North America having organized government are splinters of the National Guard who roam, without aim or command, across the mainland. At this point, the world has stabilized enough to begin setting up governments once again. [thumb]http://i.imgur.com/7p7baAf.png[/thumb] [b]RULES:[/b] 1. Be respectful to other players. 2. Be realistic. 3. It helps to have a good grasp of what area you're settling in. Having a radically liberal country in rural Texas is possible, but unlikely. 4. Running electricity should take a very long time to establish unless you have a plausible reason for its repair (e.g. long periods of stability that allowed technicians to fix the electrical grid). 5. If I get enough requests, I will expand the map. 6. Send in your turns to me unless otherwise specified. 7. When settling, make sure to expand at a steady rate. Having three provinces to start with and expanding out two every turn is a good recommendation for very expansive countries. 8. To establish countries, make sure to post the name of your country, the flag, and a version of the map below with the provinces your country occupies inside the thread. This'll help against conflicts. All subsequent territorial expansions (which are optional) should be submitted in your turn. 9. Keep the turns relatively short. If you can't fit the amount of progress and/or absolute agony your country is going through in 15 lines, then you should probably tone it down a little. 10. Turns will be processed every Sunday. If there's a lapse in my schedule, I'll be sure to notify the thread. 11. If you want a special status (protectorate, vassal) for a certain province, please incorporate it into your turn. I'll try to add it to the map as best as I can. Use the map above as a template for filling in your country's boundaries. For most North Dakotans, the oil fields were a welcomed sight as the state bank, the Bank of North Dakota, was reaping in taxes and profits that allowed massive infrastructure projects to occur across the entire state, bringing the one farming oriented state into a massive industrial power-house of the 21st Century. The one problem North Dakota had though was in part to how quickly the massive boom occurred, most of the state which was originally intended to have small farming communities, had a massive case of house shortages. This tied into an ever-increasing population, had forced many builders to build quick fix houses, that were practically tent in pale comparison to required building requirements. When the solar flare occurred in the summer, most people at the time didn't find it much of an issue. They were use to these types of things occurring do to power shortages thanks to the Bakken Oil Fields. Majority of the people had the ability to run generators which could run appliances that were hidden under-ground for protection against tornadoes. Allowing most people to have some semblance and way of life, even during the massive blackout that over-took the world. It was never going to be an issue until the reality set in around November, when the windy plains would drop from the regular 75f to -20F. The arctic cold and massive wind gusts went right through those boom-tents and caused roughly twenty thousand people to freeze to death in Minot. The remnants were slow to respond due to riots attacking the government blaming them for the fall. The riots were eventually secured after base commanders in the area followed emergency protocols for power loss. With Washington D.C. under control the commanders moved to nearby bases in Maryland and Virginia in order to secure them and help reform the country. The President and Congress were swift to declare martial law and allow the military to take control and take the place of police departments in these areas. With many jobs lost due to lack of power, those houses found empty in the surrounding area were given to those with experience leading and appointed people to help them farm the land. People were also brought in to burn down forests in order to make room for more farm land. Amish in the area were also brought in to help the population deal with going back to lack of power. Currently the people retain their old rights, and may continue to do as they please. The government encourages people to look down on those who don't do their part, and multiple congressmen have tried to put forward laws ranging from imprisonment to stripping these people of their rights. The President however has avoided signing these laws in favor of a propaganda campaign. However when the bullets ran out, and the fuel ran dry the Alaskan people knew they would have to work together to survive. Initially large strongholds were built around the few Alaskan cities that still stood strong, however eventually even the stockpiles of food that remained in the cities began to run out, people eventually left the cities in and began to scavenge for food, the people who survived would band together and large hordes of people would scavenge the countryside for whatever food was available. Eventually no one really remembered the greatness and glory of the United States, but they remembered the fact that they were abandoned. Their own motherland, cast away from its teat and forced to walk, grow, and hunt. Eventually an even stranger phenomenon began to occur. The Northern Lights began to be able to be seen throughout the Alaska and most of Canada, seeing it as a sign from God the Alaskans believed themselves to be 'chosen' of sorts and began to have a stronger faith in God and Jesus. Eventually people began to adapt to life as hunters and gatherers, many people living with Eskimos and Inuits seeing them as great teachers and were to be highly respected. Then eventually news spread throughout the land that ships had been seen from the west carrying large amounts of people, not just any people, Russians. These pilgrims and settlers brought with them not only a large group of people, which greatly outnumbered the Native Alaskans, but also brought with them guns, books, priests, livestock, knowledge, and great leadership. The Russians waved the flag of their home of the Yaroslavl Oblast, in the far western reaches of Russia, thousands of miles away. These people were grizzled, brave, tough, and most of all they knew better than anyone how to survive the cold winter and the harsh environment that surrounded them. A pact was eventually made with the Russians and the hordes that said that if the Russians would lead them, they would follow. The Leader of the Russians, a large man with a long white beard named Vladimir Putin, who had made his home in Juno christened it "New Yaroslavl" and named it the capital of the Tsardom of Alaska. With the other Groups of Russians, and now what remained of the Alaskan and Native hordes, settling in the other abandoned cities Alaska actually had a chance, people did not fear if they would live the next day. The Alaskans and Natives also adopted the Cyrodillic alphabet, officially leaving English and making Russian the main language of Alaska. Now People with fur ushakas, fur coats and big bushy beards roam the Alaskan cities, building anew upon the land that was always, truly, theirs.

Alright, those three provinces in Florida are yours. However, I'm going to need a flag so I can put it in your section of the turns. Also, I'll default to the brightest shade of red I have in Paint.NET, but if you have a certain shade of red in mind, I'll definitely use that.

Radicals would take to the streets and rally support and blame it on scapegoats, and millions would starve as a lot of the worlds food spoils and farming techniques no longer work. It would probably cause society to collapse.

I just limited it to the US for now because I wanted to truly drive home the isolation that the new world has to deal with. Long-distance travel isn't easy at all in this world, and more likely than not, if I actually put the rest of the world in there, diplomacy between countries that are far apart would be difficult, if not impossible, to arrange due to the sheer logistics of making sure your ship actually floats and that it can survive a return trip between massive oceans with no sanitation or refrigeration. Of course, eventually countries would expand to the point where the map doesn't fit them, which is the time when I make the map bigger and give those countries growing space. However, if the decreased map is too much of a gripe for people (which might explain the fact that people aren't joining), then I might just ditch that idea entirely.

Towns, villages and cities existing around Philadelphia are offered annexation, with the MSP swearing to give them protection within a larger state in these tough times. Through this, alongside the military, the MSP secure much of the former state of Pennsylvania. - Taking on the regal name of King Albert I of Pennsylvania, Nathan Harris founds an absolute monarchy, and names many of his original conspiritors as advisors to the crown and honourary princes. - King Albert decrees a number of new laws to be put in place, mostly establishing a working army, navy and police force, as well as solidifying his power and legitimacy over the small populace. - A system of redress is created, giving Albertists free will to come forth with their problems and needs. - A small navy and army are both established, immediately given the same budget to work with. Supreme commanders are put in place to control each military force. A system is created where both forces are given more money based on how hard they work and how much they conquer. - The Army is given basic weaponry and armour, whatever can be found and salvaged from within the states and outside it. - Along with the police force, both forces are given sabers and horses to compliment their arsenal, as horses are tamed and brought into the MSP and blacksmiths begin work on swords. - The Army begins to secure uninhabited countryside around Philadelphia. - A rudimentary currency is set up based on trading commodities such as cows, oxen and salt. - Traders are given free reign to go out and secure trading routes with nearby cities and towns. - The MSP begins to experiment with creating working wagons pulled by horses, fit to carry over 10 men. - The MSP attempts to utilize and improve upon Molotov Cocktails, to extend the lifetime of the fire and make it spread quicker. - With the destruction of the United States and the seizing of cities, towns and states by radicals and nationalists, a man named Nathan Harris gathers up a large party of men dissatisfied with the government, and seizes Philidelphia from American hands. He begins to quell any discord within the city state, and forms a government based around a monarchist, European foundation. - A common trait of denizens of the MSP is to take on a moniker not of the state or city they reside in, but of the King that presides over them. As such, with the crowning of the King and choosing of a regal name, citizens currently identify as Albertists. Immediately, the HRL was hostile to the UDR, with many firefights taking place between them before a declaration of war was issued. (This is my first hand at a turn, so if I missed anything, tell me and I'll be sure to fix it.)

I actually had an exact duplicate of my account that registered right next to me and had the same name, so the PM system went all screwy and kept sending every PM that was being sent to me to the duplicate. It was really strange, but the problem's fixed now.
