It's been a few months since the last GaW thread, and I've decided it's time to restart it from scratch rather than to continue where we left off. This allows me to make some changes to the gameplay which will (hopefully) make things a bit more fun for us all. Map [thumb]http://i.imgur.com/ptXj8.jpg[/thumb] Turns and how to join For the most part, I'll try to make turns every 2-3 days. To join the game, send your initial turn in via pm, with your flag, some background info of your civilization, and a cropped down part of the map for the location of the homeworld. Flags must be 250x150. Turn format is
Military: Diplomacy: Economy: Research: -Tech 1 -Tech 2 -Tech 3 Internal affairs:
Each turn will advance the turn by a year, starting at 2079. How tech works You probably know the drill by now; 3 techs to research, and one of the three will be chosen by getting 51-100 on a random number generator. There are a few limitations to what you can research at first, most importantly that your tech has to have some scientific basis. Now, I know what you're thinking and don't worry, it's not always going to be that way. As the game progresses, I'll become more and more lenient as to what classifies as a valid tech, to kind of simulate Arthur C Clarke's famous "Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic". For your first 5 turns, you cannot research any FTL drive, and must rely on your Bussard Ramscoop ships that you start with to colonize nearby stars. Besides the ramscoops, you also start with basic missiles, mining lasers, orbital construction, and mass drivers. Planets and resources Colonizing is as simple as telling me where to send one of your ships along with orders to colonize that system. Each system increases your resource cap by 50. Resources are used when building fleets and buildings (eg space stations), and are replenished over time. Keep in mind, your ships have a limited range (and always will) that increases with tech advances. Other stuff As the game progresses, you may encounter one of many npcs or random events. Legends circulate of a nomadic space fairing species of vast technological power, who sell their technologies for the right price. Other secrets may await. Feel free to contact me on steam or by pm regarding any questions not already answered here, and have fun.
Considering Joining this one. I'll wait till I see who's playing
How big of an area on the map are we allowed to claim? Like a good 1x1 centimetre chunk or?
I suppose I'll join. Might as well, right?
Thinking about joining in and bringing back the Sithil. We shall plunge our stiff, shiny appendages into every world!
Ill Join In Too
How big of an area on the map are we allowed to claim? Like a good 1x1 centimetre chunk or?
Just crop a rough area of the map, and pick a star.
So far, I've only gotten one turn. Please send your turns in so I can make the opening turn asap.
Sorry for sending such a large ass turn :v: Won't happen again, the background is what caused it.
It's fine, I don't really care about turn lengths save for really short undescriptive ones. Also, I currently have 2 turns. I'll start once I have at least 4.
It's fine, I don't really care about turn lengths save for really short undescriptive ones. Also, I currently have 2 turns. I'll start once I have at least 4.
I'll be joining. Will send turn after I eat.
Join I shall do.
The glorious Trantimirian Naval Space Command will dominate my system which is currently filled with rebellious colonists to start out because I'm a dipshit!
Jesus guys stop going full bitch out because I want to play a game, my faction does not even have a military. Ass holes.
I've got 4 turns, I'll make the opening turn some time tomorrow to give anyone else some extra time to write theirs.
Prepare to be processed.
We will invade and destroy Canuhearme? because avatar. Nah but we're just waiting on the first turn to be posted and then we will join in.
Jesus guys stop going full bitch out because I want to play a game, my faction does not even have a military. Ass holes.
I would hardly call rating you disagree as "going full bitch out".
Last time people tried to create a "not so strong ships" that blew up stars. That was shit.
I would hardly call rating you disagree as "going full bitch out".
I was talking about the dumbs. [editline]3rd October 2012[/editline]
I would hardly call rating you disagree as "going full bitch out".
I wasn't only rated dumb.

Not so much as a blip is heard this year. -Scientists create a basic form of artificial intelligence. They are very expensive however, require months of teaching, and have a tendency to blue screen every so often. -Should a council member die, votes by the people are to begin for replacement. NanoTrasen Startoad Technology: Mass Drivers, Mining Lasers, Missiles, Man-Machine Interfaces Hull Classes: Bussard Ramscoops Resources: 100/100 Stability: 99/100 Fleets: 1 -A few scout ships were sent to nearby systems. They find a red dwarf star with no planets in orbit, and a main sequence star with a few barren but colonizable planets. -A system of laws are put into place, known as Space Law, and several security guards are hired and trained for the corporation. -Asteroid mining begins, with various rare-earth metals found. -Man-Machine Interfaces are created, allowing for a human brain to be implanted in a machine. This causes a small bit of unrest by people who question the morals of it, but is mostly subsided by campaigns to gain the public trust. Junkers ThePinkPanzer Technology: Mass Drivers, Improved Mining Lasers, Missiles Hull Classes: Bussard Ramscoops Resources: 90/150 Stability: 100/100 Fleets: 1 -The Junkers start building several factories and reactors, increasing their industrial output (and their population growth by extension). -Scouts are sent north, and find a star system with a few rocky planets. A ship containing supplies for colonization is sent soon after. - Scientists create new mining lasers, with higher power output. They also make a decent self defense weapon in a pinch. Slithil Collective Canuhearme? Technology: Mass Drivers, Mining Lasers, Missiles, Miniature Computers Hull Classes: Bussard Ramscoops Resources: 75/150 Stability: 100/100 Fleets: 1 -A few ships are outfitted with missiles. A few fighters are considered, but when tested are found to run out of fuel quickly (with a few flying off into space) and easily picked off by even mining lasers. More research into more practical ones is required. -A space dock is constructed, to increase trade and construction of ships. It cones with a mass driver for rapid transport of goods. -Miniature Computers are made, becoming much smaller with little loss in performance. -A few colony ships are constructed taking up a fair bit of resources, but a nearby star is colonized and will eventually pay for itself. -Several subterranean cities are constructed, which helps the population grow. Sookat's Technology: Mass Drivers, Improved Mining Lasers, Missiles Hull Classes: Bussard Ramscoops Resources: 90/150 Stability: 100/100 Fleets: 1 -The Sookat's begin whats known as the Great Crusade; an effort to cleanse all other sentient life. They invade a nearby star system only to find it empty save for some microbial life. Still, it gets colonized and begins bringing in resources. -Mercenaries and PMCs start forming after gaining government approval. They are allowed to fight for companies competing for land on other planets. -Propaganda is distributed, telling the population to join in and do their part in the Great Crusade. Notable galactic events: -A few spacial disturbances are detected by most species, with the location not pinpointed yet. Sorry for the wait, had a lot going on today.
I've got no turns as of yet, save for a new player. Send them in asap.
I'll get it in later tonight. I still have to finish writing this damn essay.
I'm going to be writing a full background for my civilization, Maybe some others could do the same. (For the GM: As this is going to take a little while, think of the way my civilization operates as rather close to the Imperium of Man in DoW, With some major and minor changes.)
Already did. And why don't you just send in a turn and then write the bio instead of making everyone wait on you.
Already did. And why don't you just send in a turn and then write the bio instead of making everyone wait on you.
Because nobody is waiting on me? I gave a brief description of what I am in my turn (I sent mine in.) And am simply writing a more detailed bio because I want to.
I've got no turns as of yet, save for a new player. Send them in asap.
That was me.
Hi guys and girls
People I need turns from: Mr. Face Salricci
People I need turns from: Mr. Face Salricci
I sent mine last night. [editline]5th October 2012[/editline] Gonna resend it.
I've made a steam group, so I don't have to message you all separately for update announcements. Colonization of other systems is required. -Magnetic Accelerator Cannons, essentially a weaponized version of mass drivers, have been successfully tested and developed for mounting on spacecraft and orbital structures. Considering the relative fragility of known ships, they are a bit overkill (for now), but can be used for orbital bombardment. -A new ship, the Alpha Class Frigate, has been developed. With 15 missile pods, onboard AI, and a MAC, these warships are ready to do some damage. NanoTrasen Startoad Technology: Mass Drivers, Mining Lasers, Missiles, Man-Machine Interfaces. Hardsuits Hull Classes: Bussard Ramscoops Resources: 90/150 Stability: 100/100 Fleets: 1 -A space station, known as Space Station one, is constructed in orbit of the mineral rich system. It is staffed with a crew of miners and security officers. -Armored spacesuits, called Hardsuits are developed. They provide extra protection against radiation and physical damage in comparison to conventional spacesuits for miners and engineers. They resemble rigs from Dead Space. -Probes are sent north and south. A few more resource worlds are found down south, and another planetless star to the north. Junkers ThePinkPanzer Technology: Mass Drivers, Improved Mining Lasers, Missile, Orbital Drop Factories Hull Classes: Bussard Ramscoops Resources: 120/250 Stability: 100/100 Fleets: 1 -Two more worlds are colonized, and undergo massive projects to construct factories. -Specially fabricated factories are developed that can be dropped from orbit to rapidly colonize a world. Upon landing, they unpack and start turning scrap into more junkers. Slithil Collective Canuhearme? Technology: Mass Drivers, Mining Lasers, Missiles, Miniature Computers, Integrated Cybernetics Hull Classes: Bussard Ramscoops Resources: 105/150 Stability: 100/100 Fleets: 1 -The new planets get orbital trade stations similar to the one at the homeworld. -Several surveillance buoys are constructed to keep an eye on shipping lanes. -Probes are sent in various directions to scan for more worlds. An Earth-like planet is detected west, with no sentient life but lower animals. -A major military base is constructed at the homeworld. -Integrated cybernetics are developed, for use as an interface device for exoskeletons and the like. A propaganda campaign has initiated, exclaiming the purity of the Slithil form. Sookat's Salricci Technology: Mass Drivers, Improved Mining Lasers, Missiles Hull Classes: Bussard Ramscoops Resources: 120/150 Stability: 100/100 Fleets: 1 -Several wargames are held to train the Sookat navy. - Conscription of young Sookat begin, adding many new troops to the military. -Factories and mines are constructed on worlds under the Sookat's control, and several colonists are sent to the new system. -Scientists attempt to research Mass Drivers, only to find that they already have them. The embarrassment lasts for months. The Imperium of Krieg KriegsMar1ne Technology: Mass Drivers,Mining Lasers, Missiles, Plasma “Weaponry” Hull Classes: Bussard Ramscoops Resources: 100/100 Stability: 100/100 Fleets: 1 -Colonists are sent to the moon, asteroids, and other planets in the homesystem, increasing resource income. -A shipyard, The Imperium Drive Field, is constructed over the capital. -Computers are set to run simulations as a training method for Officers. -Heavy propaganda is distributed, increasing patriotism across the Imperium. -The Holy “Speakers” are sent around the planets to spread the word of Imperium Beliefs, while The holy "Listeners" are sent around the planets to root out any Heresy. -Orbital prisons are constructed, for holding criminals guilty of High Treason (Rape, murder, ect) and political prisoners. Commiting Heresy is a death sentence. -Scientists attempt to create a plasma firing weapon, but are dismayed to find that upon exiting the barrel, the plasma dissipates in the air like steam. (Gonna need a harder scifi explanation than that, and trust me there is one). [img] [/img]No flag sent The Grox Overpain Technology: Mass Drivers,Mining Lasers, Missiles Hull Classes: Bussard Ramscoops, Qui nox Resources: 100/100 Stability: 100/100 Fleets: 1 -A constitutional monarchy is put into place, and all Grox are declared equal. The current leader is Groxon, who in the event of death will be replaced by a clone. -A new stealth ship is created, called Qui nox. It is nearly invisible to radar, and uses active camouflage to make it difficult to spot using optics. The heat produced however, makes it light up thermal sensors like a Christmas tree. -Communication officers everywhere look with confusion as they get orders to contact civilizations they don't know exist. (Yeah, make first contact before communicating with them, same with colonizing in their direction.) Notable galactic events: -The spacial disturbances continue, now found to be coming from the western half of the Galaxy. This disturbs scientists of the races able to detect them (everyone except the Junkers and the Imperium of Krieg) as they are unable to explain them.
