Hello everyone, I'm planning on running yet another rendition of Modern World. You all probably know the drill by now so this doesn't really require much of an intro.
The game will start in January of 2014 to give me as well as you some cushion between the start of the game and the actual present day so as to allow us to anticipate what might happen. This will enable me to be much more accurate with the opening turns. The game will run on a three-month-per-turn cycle to allow details to be put in that would otherwise be missed in a larger time-scale.
Turn format will follow the usual format.
Title: Game Name: Nation Name [Turn Number]
Military:
Diplomatic:
Domestic:
Economic:
Espionage:
Anything put in espionage is automatically secret and the results will be PM'd to you. There is a chance, however, that a whistleblower may make the public aware of what you've done OR an agent for a foreign government will quietly make his government aware of your actions. The chances of a whistleblower is small, even smaller for a totalitarian nation. The chances of an agent discovering your actions is much higher.
I always see these, but have never played, how does it work? Is it much like Civ?
Eh, kinda. Much more in depth.
Here's a sample turn
Military:
-Begin focusing on only two military projects at once. The Mk I "Arctic Fox" SCIB and the L85 "Kodiak" Main Battle Tank. Put the IAC I "Wolverine" and the FV105 "Stoat" on the back burner for now to reduce funding strain.
-Begin selling "Victory Bonds" to help finance the revitalization of the Canadian Military. Families may purchase no more than $1000 per household to start, and businesses are limited to $10,000 per business or business subsidiary. With terms for 1, 3, and 5 years offer an interest of 1.5%, 3%, and 5%.
-Share current design specifications for all the new Canadian Hardware with Germany and Russia.
Economic
-Give larger tax breaks to companies still going under with the new minimum wage, and if necessary small stimulus packages.
-Increase sales tax to 15% across the board. Apologize to the populace for the increase in taxes, but maintain that it's necessary for Canada to grow stronger and that a good portion of it will go to public work's projects.
-Impliment a very high tax rate (50% of all net revenue) for any and all Canadian companies that outsource labour to China. If those companies bring operations back to Canada, the tax rate will return to normal. Make it clear that the government will not stand for "Canadian Businessmen turning their back on their fellow Canadians. It's not our way, and we won't go down the path of the United States, ending up in the pockets of the Chinese Dragon."
Internal
-{SECRET} Set up a plainclothes "Secret Police" force to help combat the threat of enemy spies in Canada's borders.
-{SECRET} Send spies to China to find out their plan when it comes to investing in Canadian Market. They are instructed to NOT get caught, and if they do get caught, to bite down on a cyanide capsule implanted on their rear molar. They are to have NO paperwork or anything on them linking them to Canada. Instead, they should be carrying information to link them to Australia if caught.
-Begin Pro-Canadian propaganda campaigns to increase Civilian Morale. Paint the Modern Day Canadian as a "Rough, tough, no-nonsense Canadian who's polite and "good in the sack" but isn't afraid of rolling up their sleeves to tackle a dirty problem head on."
-Begin a tourism campaign to get more tourists into the country and spend their money in Canada.
Diplomatic
-Enter into an Economic and Military alliance with Germany
-{SECRET} Enter into an Economic and Military alliance with India
If you're in I want turns in ASAP. I'd like to get the turn out Saturday or Sunday.
