Our Benefactors is a HL2RP that utilizes a new script by the name of Combine Control. Our current map, as of now, is rp_city17_v1. The management team is the Head of Roleplay, Sansa Stark, and the Lead Roleplay Director, Triplethink. We prefer to not call ourselves or the other admins... well, admins. We call them and us Roleplay Directors, because we feel that the term has been sullied by power-hungry individuals. Our Roleplay Directors are here to help, and will do everything we can to make sure the players have as much fun on the server as they possibly can. We simply aim to bring HL2RP back to what it was, and perhaps offer something for people who simply want character development as a citizen. We have labored for quite a while on many different gamemodes, settling on this after a while. Our workshop link is here: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=299328173 As you can see, it's very small. We use default resources so you won't have to wait a year or two for edgy models. Our forum is here, and is still in development like our server. http://www.forums-ourbenefactors.com/forum.php Thank you for taking time out of your day to read this. We appreciate it, and we hope to see you on the server! Our server IP is: ourbenefactorsrp.game.nfoservers.com:27015
Is this ran by Wesker?
Is this ran by Wesker?
No, not at all. It's ran by Triplethink.
So is this suppose to be a revival of the old OB?
So is this suppose to be a revival of the old OB?
Nope! I suppose it's a fairly common name, being that it's a phrase used in Half-Life 2 and even a level in the game.
The forums seem rather barren, although they look quite nice. Could you provide us with more information? I'm curious.
The forums seem rather barren, although they look quite nice.
I apologize for that. The forum is quite new, as we had to revert back from an old version. We had a lot more stuff on the old one. I hope that in time, it will become more filled with just... anything! I want to encourage community discussion. Sure. With regards to you wanting to know more, I'll make sure to write more on the original post. What I didn't include is that we take place in City 53. The idea we had was for it to be an industrial city taking place somewhere in Eastern Europe. We plan to have implementation of features related to this in the future. For now, the roleplay is focused on smaller encounters within the community of citizens. We want to see how this goes. There aren't any story arcs planned yet, but I would like for the players to choose what they want and how the direction of the server goes.
I don't think it's wise you use a name that is so very much associated with another community.
I don't think it's wise you use a name that is so very much associated with another community.
Yeah. That was a bit of an oversight.
Is this combine control the one made for the the community named Combine Control that recently died?
Is this combine control the one made for the the community named Combine Control that recently died?
If it was ran by Diss, then yes.
I thought this was a revival of the old Our Benefactors as well. A bit disappointed, but oh well. You should put some more time into fleshing out this advertisement. Tell us more about the server and the community. You say that you're taking HL2RP back to its roots, but you don't go into detail about how you're doing this. You might also want to elaborate on the script since not everyone are familiar with it. Add some more pictures from the server so it doesn't look like a wall of text. Explain how this server aims to be different from the other HL2RP servers out there.

hey, your that girl that said you were 20 or something but you really turned out to be like some 14 year old. and after i called you out on your lie, you deleted me. lmao. edit; and is this even a legit vBulletin? this community had a fucking forumotion a month or two ago, rofl
hey, your that girl that said you were 20 or something but you really turned out to be like some 14 year old.
who gives a fuck I haven't even played here yet, but judge the server for what it is. If its a good server, why does OP's age matter?
This could be fun. But there've been a trillion attempts to make good and serious HL2RP servers (GGL, Boardwalk, and billions of other servers that hit a pop of 15 and died). What does this particular server offer that the competition doesn't?

Personally, a fresh approach to the community in an environment that isn't Clockwork is what I feel makes us stand out right now. We're still in beta and getting used to everything, so the chance to help develop what we hope will be an enjoyable, immersive experience is now. We also aren't going to die as long as we have players who are here to play. The main thing that would make a new attempt of hl2rp good would be if the citizens or whatever you have as the default class can reach the higher and coveted positions like cp, overwatch, resistance, etc through actual roleplay ingame rather than forum applications. Ideally anyone should be able to reach whatever position they want to assuming they roleplay correctly. Give your regular players the opportunity to create their own roleplay by allowing them to recruit others into their factions rather than relying on admins or "Roleplay Directors" to not only run events but create the only actual roleplay on the server itself.

While we do create events, this is a community run server and we aim to make it as fun and accessible as possible. For example, just today, CPs enacted a search for all the citizens. I didn't tell them too exactly. It developed into that from a report ICly.
How long did they have to face the walls?
How long did they have to face the walls?
Legends say that they are still facing the wall to this very moment.

The resistance faction should be large and threatening enough that CP players want to recruit more members and vice versa. The roleplay shouldn't become so stale that the currently winning faction becomes complacent and people just roleplay within their small social circles. If you give the resistance players powerful enough weapons to actually be a threat and don't restrict them to living in sewers then you"ll probably find that players are a lot more involved with global events. Let the citizens rule the city for a day if that's what ends up happening, don't stick too much to the established canon, just make sure that after that day the CPs take back the city and the power struggle continues. You shouldn't need to rely on events to keep things interesting, if you give the players as a collective enough deterministic power then they will be able to create interesting roleplay by themselves.

You sound like, no offence, you're speaking out of experience of other servers and not actually giving criticism. Regardless, your feedback is appreciated! Thank you.
How long did they have to face the walls?
I forget. Not too long, though!

Regardless, your feedback is appreciated! Thank you.
He's giving you suggestions on how to make HL2RP work. Even if he hasn't been on the server and doesn't know how you guys are doing things, they are still good suggestions and nothing in your server advertisement implies that this is the way you are doing things. There are a lot of HL2RP servers out there, it's the most commonly used theme for an RP server, so in order to actually get your server populated and get it some more attention you need to really put some effort into fixing the many flaws with HL2RP servers today. That's what Zyler is giving you feedback on doing. Anyway, the server seems interesting. I'll probably hop on and try it out when I see some players on. How strictly do you adhere to the HL2 lore, by the way?
I hope this isn't as boring and confusing as CW hl2rp
It actually has a little intro when you join that explains things. And the F1 menu is pretty helpful as well if you're a new player.
So, I took a loan, bought an electronics license, realized it was almost impossible to make my money back any time soon, and disconnected :v:
So, I took a loan, bought an electronics license, realized it was almost impossible to make my money back any time soon, and disconnected :v:
I did the same thing, although it doesn't mean you have to disconnect. Now your character is in some deep shit, and maybe you could make some interesting roleplay off of that? You can always make another character too. Also with Combine Control, i noticed it always shows other players models in the Scoreboard, which can be meta-gamey if you're wearing a rebel suit.
It's deffinitely a good server though from what I've played. I haven't seen a lot of minges, and there is always a decent number of people on.
Server ain't all that special. Looks like just about every server I've played in my life. First off, the only units online were rock-solid, edgy Recruit's that had no idea how to properly type ICly or OOCly. The admins of the server refused to admit that the fact that they blocked off the warehouse and locked the front gate to it, in which I told them that they were propblocking. Of course people on the server are buddy-buddy with the server owners, which made it almost impossible to get my point across. 5/10. Nothing new to see here. Server will probably die within a month, two months tops. It's nothing different other than the new script which IMO is inferior to that of NutScript.
