Welcome to The Shifting Sands: A Middle East RP!
The Situation of the Middle East
Tensions are high. The United Arab Republic has just recently lost the ownership of Syria, and has been reduced to its original territories. The proxy conflict between groups like the PLO and Israel continue, with Israeli airstrikes going over the border into Jordan repeatedly. Uprisings in Yemen create a power struggle between the secular marxists and the local government.
Influences from the USSR and the USA continue to pull and prod at governments. Coups take place almost daily. The threat of an all out war is at an all time high.
Can you prevent this bomb from detonating? Or will you be the one to press the plunger?

How To Join As A Revolutionary Group
Group Name - Duh
Flag - 250x150
Government Type - Marxist, Fascist, Social Nationalist, Secular, Conservative, etc.
Purpose - I.E Pan Arabist, Pan Islamist, Hypernationalists, Ba’athist mimics, etc.
Basing Country - Where does your group call home?

How To Construct A Turn
Diplomacy - Dealing with other nations, both militarily and peacefully
Military - Your nation’s military production or disarmament
Domestic - Dealing with laws, local issues and governance
Economic - Includes both trade and internal monetary issues
Research - Choose 3 technologies, 2 will be chosen.
Rebels
Funding - (Replaces Economic) Where will you receive your income?
Arms Deals - (Replaces Research) You do not research like traditional countries. You instead purchase better equipment from local governments or --if you can afford it-- USSR/US weapons. This is the cold war!

ABOUT RESEARCH
Do not be afraid if you think you are going to fall behind, I.E something like long-distance landlines and etc. After a few turns, your nation will automatically pick up your neighbor’s tech (excluding nuclear). This stops players from getting into a “tech quagmire” and allows you to progress at simply a slower rate
why are flags 7 and 20 both palestinian flags?
why are flags 7 and 20 both palestinian flags?
Things like the Palestinian Liberation Organization and probably the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, or possibly the Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine
Yeah it was like that.

okay i'm gonna try out being egypt.
I have 3 turns done, and should be ready by saturday afternoon
Turn 1: January - April 1965
Map of Early 1965
[sp]Changed Cyprus’ color[/sp]
Regional Events
- Tensions rise between the PLO and the Israelis as raids continue to affect infrastructure in the country
- A huge number of separatist and anti-government groups have begun to spring up within the region
- Nations such as Saudi Arabia step up their game with exports, and begin the arduous path to meeting the American standards of oil exportation
- Revolts continue in southern Arabia
Player Turns

National Liberation Front (NLF) - Griffster26
Type - Marxist Separatists
Infighting - Minimal
International Opinion - Backwater Rebels
Funding - Meagre
Armaments - Second hand and captured supplies
- With the hopes of expanding fronts against the already thinned British forces, diplomats and advisors from the NLF meet with the Omani DLF
- The meetings end with neither side coming to an outright agreement, other than the DLF promising to up the ante with raids on British ports
- Locals that are upset with the presence of the British are encouraged to take up arms and join the NLF. This includes those with family ties to the independent Yemeni state to the north
- A march takes place in the provincial governor’s office in Aden in an attempt to cease the conflict before it can erupt, but the rebels are met with sporadic gunfire after a few bad decisions are made
- Supported by their brethren in Yemen and the socialists in Egypt, arms begin trickling into the hands of the militiamen
- The United Kingdom has yet to enter a full-scale military counterattack, and there may be peace talks within the coming months

United Arab Republic of Egypt - lintz
Government - Socialist Dictatorship
Alignment - Neutral
International Opinion - Neutral
Economic Situation - Moderately Strong (Growing)
Domestic Situation - Calm (Sustained)
Military Situation - Relatively inexperienced, subpar quality
Corruption - Moderate
- Seeing an uprising against the British, the government in Cairo quickly convenes on supplying the rebels in South Yemen
- Secular advancements take place, and the various religions within the nation are fully integrated into society, and laws are passed banning the discrimination against different sects in both the workplace and in public. Conservatives are enraged with the decision, but many of the vocal protesters disappear overnight
- To support their exportation of arms, the UAR makes deals with the Soviet Union to begin exporting weapons to supply the ailing Egyptian military
- These deals with the USSR upset American observers, who fear that the government is leaning too far to the left. A talk in Alexandria soothes American minds by stating the weapons are simply for “self defense”
- In order to ensure it’s authority in the region, the UAR quickly begins ramping up its military stockpiles. Huge government-backed projects of tank and firearm production begins, adding a small boost in job numbers in various ailing rural areas
- Looking at the Soviet style of mass production, various government-owned factories that produce weapons and military equipment begin to build huge numbers of cheap machines in hopes of pounding out more in a shorter amount of time
- These new machines do improve the sheer number of equipment, but military advisors fear that quality may suffer due to the lack of inspections
- Military research goes in tandem with such developments, including the adoption of chemical shells for artillery. Once the news is leaked, the IDF is put on high alert in fear of Egyptian gassing

The Brotherhood of Bkerké - Native Hunter
Type - Theocratic Conservatives
Infighting - Minimal
International Opinion - Anti-Government Political Party
Funding - Meagre
Armaments - Second hand and captured supplies
- With the growing dissention amongst the Lebanese christians, the Brotherhood of Bkerké begins to strengthen its numbers by appealing to the common man, using bribed priests to perform inflammatory services
- In hopes of securing an ally in the region, members of the TSS turn to the government of Syria for an alliance. However, they are turned away but not outright booted from Damascus
- With the lack of Syrian support in mind, the Brotherhood turns to the easiest way to garner support, and begins looking to religion
- Radicalized catholics from Europe, seeing their maronite brethren in need, come to Lebanon, and bring with them not only the will to fight, but sometimes the means to do so
- Arms are smuggled regularly from dealings in Egypt or even secret deals with the PLO, as the group’s militias require proper arming if they are to do anything
- To keep the world’s view of the Brotherhood in the green, various priests and supporters are encouraged to enter local communities and set up basic humanitarian aid posts. Soup kitchens, homeless shelters and hospitals bearing the yellow flag are a common sight
- Concerts take place at large events hosted by the Brotherhood, all of which celebrate a unity that can be found in the maronite faith. Mass environmental protection projects are enacted, with litter pickup and encouraging tourists to partake in the process of cleanup
- Much of the international community, especially the more conservative members, view the Brotherhood as an organized political party and worthy of support
- Muslim community leaders are uneasy with the group’s growing militancy, and whistleblowers have revealed various “training camps” in secluded areas to the nation’s north. However, the Lebanese military does nothing to intervene, and fears outright rebellion if they do
- The Lebanese government is tied on how to deal with the rebels, as they see the growing movement as a threat to national security, while simultaneously a worthwhile asset to local communities

I would like to learn how to play, but won't be able to really learn until Tuesday.
Not sure what country I would be interested in yet, my knowledge of the middle east in the 60s is small outside of Israel.

omg omg omg if i get a mod playing this this is gonna be the best rp ever sweet dicks
[editline]29th March 2015[/editline]
And actually I think that'd fill the RP, which is awesome.
That's 3 new players for turn 2, and having more than 6-7 players becomes a hassle.
Also I've been waiting for someone to take Saudi Arabia and I'm so glad someone did
[editline]29th March 2015[/editline]
Going to be busy today so turn will maybe-sorta be out monday evening CST
