Backstory: The year is 1955, and no more than a decade ago, the world came out of its most destructive war ever. Where the end left Germany a splintered country, and tightly defended on both sides of the wall, to the west, America, one country left relatively unscathed, at least, on a country-wide scale. Britain, where the sun set on its old imperial values after the war and NATO. To the east, the Communist Warsaw Pact led by the USSR, a country who initially had worked with the Nazi War Machine, had 24 million of its own men, women and children die during the 6 years of hardship. The war had also brought with it the end of the old China, replaced with a communist regime, and saw an American eclipse over the Rising Sun of Japan.
Only recently has another war ended, the Korean War, which has left relations between China, North Korea and NATO quite cold. But our focus is to a new civil war. The war between the Communist North Vietnamese, backed by the Soviets and Chinese, and the Capitalist South Vietnamese and Laos, backed by the US and NATO. Sides must be chosen in this bloody conflict, and the victor could change the course of the Eastern Theatre. But, one must not focus on their foreign affairs too much, lest the home front break down.
This is an RP running from 1955 to just after the end of the Cold War in 1995, and each turn will last one year.
RULES:
1: Send in turns to the GM, and only the GM, with the title RRR: <Country Name> (Starting Turn here if it's your first turn in this), Turn X
2: Don't write extremely long turnsheets, as indeed the maximum will be 10 lines (or at least not going ridiculously over that)
The turn will be formatted like this
Technology: (Pick one to be researched for the next turn)
Military Actions: Everything military-operation related goes here. (Recruitment drive would be more under Domestic Action)
Domestic Actions: Everything you do on the Home Front is to be put here.
Foreign Affairs: Everything that you do relating to peaceful actions relating to other countries. (Trade Agreements, Embargoes, etc)
Anyways, make comics denouncing filthy Commies/pigdog Capitalists, comment and so such so that the thread at least looks alive.

I'll be the Congo.
USA go
Do I still see an Indochinese Union in there? And a French Saigon?
Either you used the wrong map somewhere down the line, or I'm totally playing as Indochina. I need to use that new constitution anyhow.
Why are the N Koreans occupying parts of the South?
[editline]19th March 2015[/editline]
Why aren't North and South Vietnam separate entities?
Shhhh, don't mention Indochina's political situation. I'm super hyped to play as them again.
[editline]19th March 2015[/editline]
Besides, we can reenact that 'happening' that went down in A World Divided, what with South Korea being invaded. Never really panned out too much.
I'll be the Congo.
I'd probably fix a few things on that map, like how South Vietnam has a chunk of Cambodia. They never did have that, did they?

GLOBAL AFFAIRS OF 1955 - 1956
- More communist revolutions are occuring in Africa and Latin America, local rumors speculate that there is Soviet aid heading to those countries, but nothing has been confirmed as of yet.
- The first nuclear powered submarine, the USS Nautilus is completed mere weeks after New Years, it breaks many records set by diesel-powered subs, and is now at the cutting edge of deep-sea technology.
- The war between the USSR and Germany officially ends, despite the Second World War coming to a close a decade ago, with the Soviet push on Berlin and Suicide of Hitler.
- A relatively minor alliance between the Middle-Eastern countries of Iran, Iraq, Pakistan, Turkey and the United Kingdom is formed as the Central Treaty Organization through the Baghdad Pact.
- The Warsaw Pact is officially formed in the Eastern Bloc, consisting of Bulgaria, Czechoslovakia, East Germany, Hungary, Mongolia, Poland, Romania, Albania and most importantly, the USSR, is formed.
- The Vietnam War is officially started after Ngô Đình Diệm proclaims as president over a new Republic of Vietnam after he fraudulates voting and forms the Army of the Republic of Vietnam. The major players so far have been the SVA and the NVA, assisted by the Vietcong, a guerilla group.
- The President of Panama is assasinated at a race track in Panama City.
- The Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Winston Churchill, widely regarded as one of the greatest leaders of the 20th Century, resigns due to ill health.
- The President of Yugoslavia, Josip Broz Tito, is assassinated. However, the assassin was sloppy, and was caught, and later revealed as to be hired by the Russians, with Russian ministers denying any involvement. The already cold Yugoslav opinions to the Soviets turn bitter, almost oppositional.
- Rumors circulate within China that the DPRK is smuggling arms throughout China to arm the NVA.

United States of America: Logan Is Awesome
- In ArmaLite labs, a rifle influenced by the Soviet AK-47 and Nazi Sturmgewehr 44 is drawn up and prototyped, the AR-15 Assault Rifle. After a proposal to the US Military, they immediately adopt it, placing a massive order for 12 million rifles, and regular production of 1.4 million a year. Factories aren't able to keep up with this drastic amount, so Thompsons, Garands and Carbines are all but halted in their production. Some soldiers who are training with the weapon report some jams, but not enough to start worrying about.
- The American military is slowly reorganized from their WW2 signature of Shock and Awe tactics used in World War 2 to a more power projection-centered approach. To aid this, 5 Enterprise-Class Aircraft Carriers are being build, the first of which, USS Enterprise, to be completed by next year, and the last in 5 year's time.
- An order of 12,500 M48 Patton MBTs is made to phase out the aging Sherman Tank fleet. The Pattons are fitted with 105 mm cannons.
- Hate crime laws are passed in America, as well as rights slowly being granted to minorities within the country. This sparks immediate dissent within the south, while the north is generally in favor of these changes. Many schools are required to have mandatory lessons about equality, understanding and acceptance of different cultures and races, after this, it is noted that some southerners even take their children out of those schools to put into schools bound by these laws, and some southern schools just outright refuse to follow these laws.
- A massive reworking of infrastructure is underway, with rail lines of 90 MPH or higher speeds, this means goods can be brought around the country faster and life becomes ever more convenient for Americans. Well, at least when trains themselves come to that standard.
- Funds are poured into a project to get to the moon within 15 years, however, with the Russian Sputnik-1 reaching space, the German scientists focus on getting to space first, let alone focusing on the moon. V2 rocket engines are used with varying success, but none of them reaching orbit.
- The Federal Prison system is revamped greatly from a system based on punishment of criminals into one based off of the rehabilitation of them. It is widely praised, however, some believe it makes going too cushy on criminals, and that they won't learn their lesson under this system.
- A colossal shipment of 10,000 Sherman Tanks and 500 Pershing tanks, as well as 90,000 of an assortment of Garands and Thompsons, is sent to South Africa.
- Another shipment of 200 Patton Tanks each is sent to South Korea and South Vietnam.
- Hurricane Diane hits the Northeast US, killing over 200 and causing over $750 million in damages.
- An Alliance is set up with South Africa, and one set up with South Vietnam.

- 25 million rubles worth ($6.25 million aprox.) of military equipment is sold to the NVA.
- The USSR forms the Treaty of Friendship, Co-Operation and Mutual Assistance, more widely referred to as the Warsaw Pact, between itself, Bulgaria, Czechoslovakia, East Germany, Hungary, Mongolia, Poland, Romania, and Albania.
- The De-Stalinization of Russian Politics proceeds as planned, with the creation of a new law stating that the General Secretary may only be on seat for 10 years.
- The Five-Year Plan policy is changed to allow the ability to change specific plans if absolutely required.
- The USSR is shunned by most of the western community for the hiring of an assassin to deal with the Yugoslavian president.
- Optic Fiber is improved from its old 19th century designs, and distributed to research stations around the country and used for image and paperwork extremely fast. Proposals are drawn up to use it in the telecommunications industry.
- Multiple attempts are made to hire Wernher Von Braun and his team to the side of the cosmonauts, but were repeatedly refused as they were worried of working under horrible conditions like slaves like those they feared during World War 2.
- Russia attempts to warm relations between it and other various Asian countries. The PRC seem most swayed by these talks, although this may be due to their lack of foodstuffs after the civil war in the mainland and seeking to import food on loan. North Vietnam also is swayed towards Soviet influence, especially after the millions-worth of equipment sent to them. Laos is skeptical, but not totally against the Soviet talks. North Korea and Mongolia remain firm in their standing with the USSR.
- Homosexuality is re-legalized within the USSR, garnering overwhelming support with most of the population, but some dissonance within the old folks and some politicians.

- Due to PLA's need for a new fighter aircraft in the ever-proceding jet-race, the Shenyang J-5 fighter is born. During the test flight, the engine stalls, and the plane makes a crash landing, however, it is still mostly intact and the pilot survived. The PLA is eager to see the introduction after the bugs have been worked out.
- Nationalist-Islamic uprisings are becoming an ever-increasing threat to the Chinese west, and so more troops are being put there to repress them. One such group, known as the Global Liberation Army, or GLA, has been noted with many border skirmishes with the PLA, but are not considered a threat to national security.
- The PLA takes control of various islands within the Taiwanese strait, with the intent on moving in and capturing Formosa. Most western countries are shocked at the lightning-fast strike at Taiwan, and pressure is put on the US and NATO to act fast, as this cannot be tolerated by a free world.
- Landlords and merchants who were free under the Nationalist rule are starting to face harder and harder life, as they are being persecuted by the government. Some powerful landlords are even hunted down to be executed.
- China strives to be a self-sufficient nation, as foreign investment is largely wiped out from the country, and drug-trafficking is absolutely clamped down upon.
- Construction of over 600 large and medium projects commences, and with 156 of them calling for aid from the Soviet Union. The costs are high, but the economic changes this could bring to the country presses them on.
- The PRC government strives for relations with the USSR, and offers gifts to do so. This may be due to a lack of food, and the requirement of loan-like import of foodstuffs.

The Union of South Africa: Native Hunter
- South Africans find out a more efficient way of carrying cargo across their waters, with Container Ships carrying cargo in huge, truck sized containers to be lifted from cranes into the ship. The project is fledgling, but has got the international community interested.
- The South African military is remodelled into one resembling America's, with focus on shock warfare and hard hitting power for a quick war.
- Men from poor and uneducated areas are encouraged to join the military through the use of recruitment adverts being put up and recruiters being sent to these areas. The result is a resounding success, with many young men joining the army, however, a decision must be made to either use these new recruits as a human-wave of conscripts in upcoming wars, or to spend the huge amounts of money training them into professional soldiers.
- Military gear is requested from Britain and America. America sends a huge wave of equipment, consisting of 10,000 old Sherman tanks, and 500 slightly newer Pershing tanks, along with an assortment of 90,000 Garands and Thompsons. The British also send equipment, but to a lesser degree, they send most of their reserves of Garands and Thompsons, coming around to a total of 150,000 of the guns sent between Britain and America.
- In South African schools, Afrikaans becomes mandatory to be taught, a long with electives to learn different regional languages. This is part of a curriculum to unite South Africa with a single language. School attendance becomes mandatory.
- South Africa initiates a high-cost, high-reward programme of expanding mines, and building schools, hospitals and factories in areas of high-unemployment and low income to encourage jobs. It will take a few years to really reap the benefits.
- The infrastructure is also being redone with thousands of construction jobs opened up to build new roads, highways and railways across South Africa.
- The Home Defense Task Force, or Huis Verdedinging Taakmag (HVT) is set up to keep peace with in SA and put down any insurrection or revolt. It is widely panned as people believe it is going to be used to set up martial law within the country.
- The British Government is petitioned to cede most of its African colonies to South Africa to be ruled by the state. The British, hoping to relieve some of their financial weight on the treasury, cedes them to South Africa.
- South Africa makes an alliance with the US.

Republic of Vietnam: Malos
- The Vietnamese develop a new boat, as the Maritime Patrol Boat, just smaller than a corvette. Their main purpose is to act as Coast Guard and to act as an early-warning defense against sea-borne threats.
- Ngo Ding Diem gains power and proclaims himself president over the head of state, Bao Dai, after a fraudulent referendum.
- The government led by Ngo Ding Diem is assured by him to be set up in the most non-corrupt way possible, and he ensures his government's competance.
- Refugees and destitute Vietnamese are resettled into uncultivated land, with the ownership of land made clear for each person.
- Buddhists are treated better under Diem's rule, due to his positive experiences during his childhood.
- The ARVN is scrambled after a hidden cache of weapons were found, which were suspected to be used in a revolutionary movement. Some caches are found, but the generals believe there to be more around the country.
- A more aggressive military doctrine is adopted by the ARVN, preferring attack and occupation, rather than the previous doctrine of defense.
- The RoV sets up an alliance with the US, synced with a shipment of 200 M48 Patton tanks, and enough money for the recruitment and supply of a half-million army.

Democratic People's Republic of Korea: OfficerLamarr
- The KPA commissions various companies based in both Korea and China to develop a new assault rifle for the KPA. The most successful (or at least, coolest looking) of these designs is the Type 86S. A bullpup based assault rifle. However, being one of the first of its kind, many soldiers report weapon jams and general uncomfortable-ness with the weapon. However, it is still put into active use.
- North Korea continues its brainwashing of the populace and the isolation from the outside world. Most western countries have no idea what is going on inside of Korea due to its tight border control.
- Training exercises are conducted outside of Pyongyang.
- The DPRK pressures China into a trade agreement for weaponry such as S-A Missiles and other ballistic weapons to equip the KPA.
The most successful (or at least, coolest looking) of these designs is the QBZ-95
Pardon
You know this rifle was from the 1990s right, a more suitable weapon would be this thing, it may be 1980s vintage but at least it isn't polymer and is based off a cartridge that actually exists at this time
Type 56 would be better
prepare your orifices
