Howdy fellas! Lately I've been in the mood to play Garry's Mod, but I've been frustrated by the obscene amount addons and content that drastically increase load times; and usually when I was able to load in, I didn't like the management or just plain didn't have fun. Because of this, I decided to rent a small VPS server to host a similarly small Garry's Mod server (16 slots, but can be safely increased to 20-24 if need be). [B]What I would really like to emphasize is that I'm keeping the server as addon-free as possible, so any Facepunchers reinstalling Garry's Mod or installing it for the first time can load in and join quickly.[/B]

I'm not gonna have any fun playing by myself, so I'm asking fellow Facepunch users to come join me. This server is primarily for you all, and will be treated as such. Everything including the gamemode and map are decided by the people who want to play on it. My only restriction is that whatever gamemode it may be, it'll be essentially ruleless. This means players will be able to kill each other, mess with each other's props to their heart's content and etc. The last thing I want to do is ban people for having fun in their own way.

[U]Server Hardware and Software[/U]
I'm renting the $10 a-month plan from vultr.com, and as such I have 1 gig of RAM and a single core CPU of unadvertised clockspeeds. I can upgrade the plan if we outgrow this setup and/or popularity demands it. The machine is currently running on Debian 8 i386.

[U]What It's Currently Running[/U]
At the moment the server is located in Miami, USA, running vanilla ULX and Sandbox with CS:S content on gm_construct. [B]This is subject to change[/B], if people only want to play sandbox or another gamemode/map, they need only to reply to this thread and post their suggestion. Again, I'd like to keep this server ruleless, so there's no restrictions to what you can do. If you're looking for a more passive, peaceful gameplay, with concepts such as RDM or whatever-the-fuck, this server isn't for you.

Again, this server is for Facepunchers. Tell me what you'd like to see on and done with the server, and if enough people want it to happen, it'll happen. It's pretty small, I bought the $10 compute instance plan from [url]www.vultr.com[/url] . Inshort, a gig of ram and a single core CPU of unadvertised clockspeeds. I am willing to upgrade it if need be, but I'm not expecting too much interest initially.

Posting to let anybody interested know that the server is back up and is now currently on Sandbox and construct. I'll be on sometime around 8:00 PM GMT -5 to do some stress testing and fine tuning of the sbox limits.

Server is back up, sorry for the delay. Currently I'm having to manually restart it whenever it crashes or goes down, if anyone has some tips for an autorestart I'd be happy to hear them

since you're on linux can't you just create a cron job to restart it?
crontab -e
@reboot /server/path -params

the above just turns on the server on a restart though

Don't worry about it. Some minges crashed it the other day. If it goes down again I'll post back here just so we all know.

so what times are people usually playing on the server? i havent played gmod in forever (shit i havent even played it since they updated the UI drastically so im lost a little), and usually only on a LAN server with a couple of friends. this seems like a good thing to get back into it

Well I'm US Central Time, but I usually see people on around 6-10 pm. It may fluctuate randomly though, but those hours are when I see people playing. Now that its passworded, it might be a little different. It used to be you could get on by yourself and be surrounded in about 20 minutes.

since I'd really like to see Wiremod and SProps on the server, could a way to have optional addons be managed?
I'm pretty sure you just have to extract the latest versions of the GMA files for addons to the server's addon folder.

I just added Wiremod to the workshop collection I have (which is the one used by this server) since it's only 7 mb - is that fine?

Please, increase prop limit, and other entities limits. We can't place any lamps.
And add permissions to operators to clean up the map or kick players

I'd like to see Advanced Duplicator 2 on the server, and I'd just add it to my collection if there was an official version on the workshop, but there apparently isn't.
