• Do you get hats faster if you idle?

Hello I haven't been reading about the new drop system very much but I'm wondering about how hats are given to players, do you think it is the same system as items are given to you? Do you think that it works like that with hats? I know how the drop system works with you getting a "roll" when you're going to get your next item (possibly hat) but not which item you're going to get and there is a daily and a weekly cap but you can gain a few items into next weekly cap. I know you won't get you hats faster as in shorter time but if there is a countdown timer that is counting down until you get a hat does it count all the time you play or just a limited time every day if that is how the drop system works. Also
Searching is disabled
technically you don't get drops any faster but since you're sure to hit your limit it's faster than playing the game normally
No.
Nope. And yeah, you can't even go to the search engine anymore.

It may seem that way but the system is totally random. Some people just have more luck than others.
No
Been playing far before the first extra weapon updates/class updates. Have found a two hats in total, crafted the rest/found them through events. Clocked 650 hours of game play. :frown:
The only random hat i have is Engie's Safe n' sound.
The only random hat i have is Engie's Safe n' sound.
I thought that was a scout hat.
wiki.tf2.com Every single time.
http://wiki.teamfortress.com/wiki/Main_Page Every single time.
Fixed.
If this were true. I'll be a hat philanthropist. Giving away hundreds of my hats to random folk.
I found my hats in real gameplay, when I idle I only find items And I have over 800 hours of gameplay and I only have found 3 random hats, and crafted 3.
I wish, but then no one would play the game
You won't get any more hats than if you played. The hat drop system essentially rolls a dice every certain interval of time to determine whether you get a hat or not. So idling doesn't technically increase your chances, but the longer you stay ingame the more times you get a dice roll for the hats.

I thought they now roll for the time of your next drop? I think they changed it because some people had really bad unlucky streaks.
I thought they now roll for the time of your next drop? I think they changed it because some people had really bad unlucky streaks.
I guess they changed it for the worse, after the drop update I stopped finding random hats.

No, all idling involves is sitting on a map waiting for the drops it's no different from playing the game. The only difference being people that idle are people that are busy or can't play, after I've played when the cap limit resets I tend to only get 3 items and then I idle through the night while I'm sleeping to see what else I can get. I can't see any other reason why you'd idle because the new system means you can't get any more items when you reach your cap, and I've notice random hat drops are harder to come by.
I have played since the beta. No hats. Ever. Like most people said, it's based on how lucky you are.
I have played since the beta. No hats. Ever. Like most people said, it's based on how lucky you are.
Except that hats were first introduced from the Sniper vs. Spy update.
True but to be honest when there was no cap rate the people who idled the second hats were introduced are the ones who got the most, even if you weren't that lucky. Now if you don't get a hat within the cap limit you just have to wait till next week when the cap resets. Also OP you're speaking like the system for item/hat drops is uknown to people it's on the wiki and pretty much everyone knows how it works.
Except that hats were first introduced from the Sniper vs. Spy update.
And this is relevant how? He's just saying he's played forever. Incidentally.. Me too. Bloody drop system.
And this is relevant how? He's just saying he's played forever. Incidentally.. Me too. Bloody drop system.
So why bother telling us you've been playing since beta when there weren't even hats yet.

899 Hours played 2 non-event hats currently, 5 non-event hats total
http://www.tf2items.com/profiles/76561198001129688 438 Hours played Including one by crafting (Spy's Fedora). [editline]07:11PM[/editline] The others non-event hats were obtained by drop and luck
Save your refined metals for when more hats come, so you have a possibility of getting a range of different hats. THE MORE YOU KNOW
