• Idea for an unlock token system

Well, think of it as this... When you start TF2 you have no unlocks and 30 tokens, buying an unlock costs 10 tokens, so they get 3 when the start. You get 5 totens when you delete an unlock, so delete 2, get 1. You get 1 token for every hour of play, and 1 token every 20 wins, and also 1 token for every 100 points in a game. You cannot get tokens when in spectator. You can trade both tokens and weapons with other players. Sound good?
No.
5-10 Hours for every unlock? Fuck NO.
5-10 Hours for every unlock? Fuck NO.
5 totens every hour, thus every 2 hours, better?
MUCH better. With some more tweaking this could work.
Agreed.
Tokens :eng101: Seems like a decent idea, but will hats cost more tokens?
Tokens :eng101: Seems like a decent idea, but will hats cost more tokens?
Hats should cost a fucking shitload
How does this solve any current unlock system problems though?
You can choose the unlock you want and you can easier predict when you get unlocks (If I've understood this right)
Get hats quicker. V:v:V I dunno.
How does this solve any current unlock system problems though?
Some people are desperate for hats, and probably are willing to give up a few unlocks for it. Since hats would cost more tokens, you could've spent it on unlocks, so it's either a few unlocks, or a hat.
Idle in a server for 24 hours. You get 120 tokens. That's 12 items. You could get all items for 4 classes. You get all the items in 2-3 days if you're persistent. Edit: Nothing is really going to change the fact that some people don't care for the la-de-da of unlocking stuff, and they just want to play with their new toys.
Instead of tokens, how about jarate? to get huntsman, you have to trade 10 jars of piss.
You want to convert the game in World of Fortress 2: The burning spy?
I think 1 token per hour is reasonable. IF it was 5 per hour, you could get every unlock in a week.
No.
How about, each achievement gives you a token and when you've done like 5 or 10 of them you have enough to choose any unlock you want, except the hats cost a lot more. In the end, there should be enough achievements to be able to buy everything.
So people will just join idle servers a day or 2 in advance before they actually go play.
You could change it so that it only counts the time if you're not afk... Maybe only as long as you do damage to someone once a minute, and move as well within that time.
No matter what valve come up with a way to unlock things, people will always find a way around it by cheating.
No.
What the fuck, didn't you read this before posting? People are so pissed off because they think TF2 is getting closer to becoming an RPG, and you post friggin TOKENS? Seriously, TOKENS!?
I can imagine valve doing something silly like crafting where you can combine 2 items to level them in some way. Like how gabe said that all the crap we have now will be more valuable at some point, so maybe they meant that you'd be able to take all the duplicates you have now, stick them onto a default item and change its level in different ways. So like, you take a new spy watch you found, then stick a cloak and dagger on it, and it'll go up to level 21 or whatever and have new stats. Or you could stick a dead ringer on it and it'll go up level 50. Or you could take another random watch you found and combine the 2 to get another one with different stats. It'd be dumb but it'd mean there's a reason for having over 9000 cloak and dagger watches.
I had a dream about that once. IT. WAS. BADASS. [editline]05:48AM[/editline] Incendiary cannon was a level 57 Flare gun. That reminds me. My Flare gun leveled-up today. I don't know how, but you can gain item levels by playing as the class.
