When I start up and try to find some servers they usually don't show up at first, and I can't even connect directly to any servers
Then when I get on a server my ping shoots up to 150-300, and I warp around the place without no control, actually feels more like 800+ ping. It settles down after couple minutes
Any idea what's causing this/how to fix this shit
Shut down Utorrent and other crap you don't need.
FTP causes my ping to spike alot.

Never have it running when this happens, and it's only at the start of the game. After that it runs smooth
Sounds like an ISP problem or something. Try contacting them about your ping problem.
Specs?
Did you make sure your download region is correct?

I doubt it since it only happens with tf2, started doing this about the same time as engineer update came out IIRC

It is
It was a problem with one of the updates around the Engineer one. I had the same exact problem, it deals with the server browser continuously going through the list resulting in lag and sometimes kicking off the internet connection. The only way to get around this is to connect with your console "connect IP-address". Don't open the server browser when you bring up TF2. It might help to keep a document file with all of the IP addresses of the servers you frequent so you can just copy and paste them. It sucks, but at least it works.
