Well what you do is sing it, and change it slightly in audacity so it doesn't sound like you.

Practice
Try improving other people's work before trying to make something that's your own. Like take a lackluster map and go in sections slowly adding to it for practice. Not being able to create what you envisioned is usually a showstopper.
Once you've got that down go about making simple versions of what you want, then carry through with the same process, slowly improving a raw idea.
