(thanks to Derposaurus for banner) Let me start by saying: "We were all there once." We were all once happy new players on a strange new world. We all asked stupid questions such as "how to turn sentry" or "how to go invisible" or "how to headshot". We all didn't know how to properly rocket jump, and we even ubered spies and snipers. And, back in those days, there were "those players" who made fun of us. And they didn't make us really happy, did they? In June 23, 2011, Team Fortress 2 went free-to-play. And suddenly, a whole batch of new players entered the game. And now, it's their turn. Their turn to make stupid questions, to uber snipers, and to be made fun of. But this time, it's different. This time, it can change. Team Fortress 2 has a wonderful feature called Coaching, where you are able to help new players perfect and master the game. And althought it isn't the greatest of features, it still helps. And now, with the new F2P players, its time to take that to a new level with the Coaching Society. But... what is the Coaching Society, you ask? Well, I'm glad you asked. The Coaching Society is a group of people/coaches who are decided to help those new players that really want to play the game. Not the ones that want to hack and grief servers. The ones that want to play and have fun in Team Fortress 2. The Coaching Society's members will each take a student under their wing, and teach them through the basics of the game, until they learn enough so they are ready to make their own strategies and create their own methods of playing. To transform them from newbies to players. How does it work? A newbie will approach the Steam group and make a comment, asking for help. One of the members will move forward and turn them into their students, and teach them how to play the game. Once that newbie learns how to play, he too can join the group and help other newbies. In fact, there is a list of coaches down there, so you can PM one of them! And that's why I'm asking you. Yes, you. You don't have to be a master pro at the game. You don't have to be a competitive player. You only need to know how to play. I am asking you to join me in this group, and instead of just sitting around, crying and complaining about the new players, make a difference. Together, we can transform these newbies into good and helpful players. So join me at our Steam Group (http://steamcommunity.com/groups/tf2cs) and spread to the word, to both newbies and players. Let them know that there are people who won't make fun of them for asking how to rocket jump, and that there are new players who want to learn. Let them know that the Coaching Society exists. Cant help them if they don't listen.
Cant help them if they don't listen.
That's why we will help the ones that will listen. I myself found TWO today.
This is really great of you to start this.
joined for the greater good. hopefully we can help the new comers get their bearings
Joined, fantastic cause.
coaching is for people who understand the basics of the game. Most people haven't even done the tutorials or even looked at the controls list.
Will join this with my 4000something tf2 hours to help newcomers
Im in.
Joined too, somebody could make a simple avatar for the group [editline]25th June 2011[/editline]
coaching is for people who understand the basics of the game. That, and newbies have to allow the coaching, if i recall correctly
Joined. I sacrificed a few hours just to Coach my friend.
Our objective now is to find newbies. So spread the word.
I'd love to turn those MW2 pro leet kids into dapper young members of the ever expanding TF2 society.

I would like to anter and get those glasses.
Posted a comment, copy paste: Hi, I'm quite new. I know the basics and play heavy a lot, but I would love someone to teach me the tricks to help win. I do have a mic, but I don't use it since I'm 10 so if you're really willing to put up with my voice then I can use it. I live in the UK so that means I'm GMT and I'm only available after 3:15pm (GMT) weekdays.
This very good, I remember when I taught a Scout how to fight against a Heavy. Good luck people.

I'm from Poland though, so it will be hard to understand me sometimes (Worst. Accent. Ever.)
I will be happy to help you. I'm from Poland though, so it will be hard to understand me sometimes (Worst. Accent.
I wouldn't mind giving it a go. I've never really coached anyone before so it probably feels good to help a new player.
OK, thanks, please message me on steam, we can arrange times. Some point tomorrow hopefully. [editline]25th June 2011[/editline] Also, gave you guys friendlies :unsmith: [editline]25th June 2011[/editline] Gone to bed, be back up about 8-10 pm GMT tomorrow. [editline]26th June 2011[/editline] Up.
Yeah this is the way to go. Not by whining about how the new players are "retarded" or "plaguing tf2" or whatever. Help them instead. And this will become a better community.
Every time I agree to Coach someone, I get a "connection failed after 4 retries" error.
Every time I agree to Coach someone, I get a "connection failed after 4 retries" error.
Probably means their ports aren't forwarded.
Ok, so I will make a version for all of you to use now. What should I put in the third point, instead of my nickname?
I fear this will turn into a "I wanna help the guy" where everyone races to help the poor new guy out and argue about it. However, I feel that it won't come to that. I could lend a medical hand if need be. Its nice to see more people helping others :unsmith:.
So, I know this is sort of ironic, but could someone help me with coaching? I tried it, but I accidentally put an "Attack Here" marker on a friendly Engineer, and when I tried to tell him to move towards the Sentry because that's where all where (he was a Medic), the lag made me direct him to the Payload, currently being held tight by 5 Heavies. So I would like to know some stuff about how it works, like, can I use text chat without the whole server seeing my message to stab the Medic, and what is the extent of my actions? Just talking and telling to Attack/Defend on a point, or could I do more?
more languages at least every official tf2 language - german, russian, polish and more
