• Viewmodels- yay or nay?

I'm just curious as to how popular the turn viewmodels off option is. I usually play with them all off (bar spy, for the watch meters), and yesterday I decided to turn them on, just to see how I played with them. I managed a few minutes as soldier and scout before I had to turn them off again, as I realised just how much of the screen they take up, and how distracting they'd become after their extended absense. So, on or off, or a mixed combo for certain classes?
Mixed. Viewmodel's always on for melee, on for all weapons as spy, on for the medigun (but off for the needlegun), and off everywhere else.
always on
Always on. It'd be disappointing without them.
On, never thought to turn them off, really.
You cant turn them off!?
on /thread
Viewmodels off take away the TF2 feeling, if you know what I mean
Why would you play with the view models off?
Ofcourse on.
Why would you play with the view models off?
I actually wondered the same when the option came along. I had a friend (before he became the very definition of an 'I hate pubfags, I only play competitive' asshole) who said the view models filled up the screen and that I should turn them off. I'm only your average pub player, nothing special, but I decided to just try it out. Hell, may as well try. First few hours were pretty awkward, as aiming, with pipes especially, seems to be more difficult, but I decided to persist, and kept them off since, apart from spy (as a Dead Ringer user, it got annoying not knowing if the watch was up or not). I noticed the big difference when I flicked them back on again a few weeks later. They really do take up a lot of the screen, notable example being the heavy's shotgun, scattergun and rock it lawn chairs. I wouldn't say it offers me a huge advantage, but I prefer my screen to be clear and uncluttered, which helps me focus a bit more on the actually game.
Viewmodel is on for all but these weapons : Ambassador FaN Disguise Kit
Damit. Voted off instead of on. [sigh]... well i always keep them on.
Always keep em on. I may turn them off for disguise kit or pda though.
Mixed, I use viewmodel fov, and push back the weapon so I only see a bit of it on the edge of my screen. I can easily tell which weapon it is, but without it blocking my screen. Awesome for huntsman.
Off for anything that brings up a menu (Destroy/Build PDAs and Disguise Kit so far, but future updates may bring more)
Didn't know you could take them off, I keep them on, any game.
I also didn't even know you could turn them off, but I don't really plan on using that option.
It does make for a significant difference, but I prefer turning FOV up if I feel it gets too cluttered.
i wasnt aware you could turn them off
Yay for scout. It's basically point'n'shoot. Also yay for soldier's rocket launcher. On on all other classes
Always on, but I want them to be smaller.
On. It's annoying not to know in which stage of reload your weapon is in.
What the hell is this viewmodel?
What the hell is this viewmodel?
When you play the game, you see your weapons on the screen. There's an option to remove them from the screen, so your weapons are invisible to you.
Depends, I play competitive gaming, so I use view models off on every gun except my secondary and melee weapons. It helps me see more and concentrate more on the crosshair. I also use different crosshairs for each gun which I quick switch
and thats a resounding yes from the crowd.
I can't aim for shit without view models for some reason.
and thats a resounding yes from the crowd.
Ha, yes, I had a feeling It'd probably swing that way!
I can't aim for shit without view models for some reason.
Ditto. My aim was pretty fucked first time I played without, going from being able to 2 shot a moving medic as scout to being unable to land a single shot on a revved heavy. It's understandable for classes that fire projectiles, since you have no visual clue indicating where they originate from, but somehow even hitscan classes get affected!
I can't aim for shit without view models for some reason.
They provide a bigger reference for aiming. That's why sniper scopes have lines pointing towards the middle instead of just a dot - it's intuitively easier to line things up.
