Every time I go into the game with -dxlevel 81 in launch options, the video settings reset to high. this decreases my FPS drastically. I want to have better FPS, and all current "FPS raisers" are broken. Is there a way to get dx8 mode to work without resetting my video settings?

Plus you only have to put in the command once.
Remove it after.
It's easily possible through registry editing.
Start > Run... > Type in "regedit" (without quotes) > Hit OK.
Registry editor should open.
Navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Valve\Source\tf\Settings
Find "DXLevel_V1" on your right and double-click on it.
Set the "Base" to "Decimal" and type in "81". Hit OK.
Remove -dxlevel 81 from your launch options.
