• Even After A lot of Tinkering, Sprays(for me) not visible.

I used a config awhile ago, that made the game basically look like it was on N64. While the high fps was nice, I missed seeing sprays. Quite a illogical reason for sprays over fps, I know.. Bare with me. I deleted a couple of parts, unchecked "disable sprays" in the Multiplayer>Advanced box. To no avail it didn't work. I restart TF2, did nothing. I started to ponder if the config I had was making it not work, so I deleted the userconfig.cfg, whatever had "config" in it. After STEAM decided to replace said things, I went in game, pressed T, nothing. I used VTFedit, saved it, put in the corresponding folders, still nothing. Now I was far and few from becoming satisfied with my efforts of seeing sprays. Next. Reinstalling. 10-15 minutes later I come back to it back up and ready to go. I set my launch properties to -dxlevel 81, because my computer can not handle DX9 for TF2(Could that be the reason?) I launch the game, get in game, press T. Nothing. I raged on at my computer, deleting the Team Fortress 2 folder. ALL OF IT GONE. Nothing left. I Delete local content, everything to make sure this game didn't exist on my HD. I re-install. Again, place the spray.vtf/.vmt in the corresponding folders. Go into game, multiplayer>import>findspray>spray.vtf and bingo. There it is, my spray! So I go into game, press T. Nothing. TL;DR I'm at a breaking point for my spray to work, I've tried nearly everything. Help me, please.
Is it only your spray not appearing after the reinstall, or all sprays?
Did you do "r_decals 1" in console, perhaps? It might work, but you probably already tried it.
Is it only your spray not appearing after the reinstall, or all sprays?
Everyones spray, not just mine, sadly.
Did you do "r_decals 1" in console, perhaps? It might work, but you probably already tried it.
I'll try it now. E:/ Didn't work.
There was a command to disable them. "cl_playerspraydisable" = "0" client archive - Disable player sprays. Set to 0 if 1.
Also, do you know if other people see your spray when you press T?
There was a command to disable them. I forgot which but enter "find spray" in console and it should pop up. Maybe it was "cl_disableplayersprays"?
I entered both 0/1 in the console just now, no difference, would I have to restart the game for it?
Also, do you know if other people see your spray when you press T?
Yes they can. I've asked several people.
Same problem here.
I entered both 0/1 in the console just now, no difference, would I have to restart the game for it?
See edit. And check what value it currently has by just entering "cl_playerspraydisable" without a value. And I guess rejoining the server would be a good idea.

That sucks.
That sucks.
Yeah.. what I don't understand is that how can a deleted config permanetly deleted, still be impacting the game?.... I ponder if I should take this to the steam forums.
what I don't understand is that how can a deleted config permanetly deleted, still be impacting the game?....
Awhile ago (before tf2 had steam cloud) my bump maps got disabled somehow. I didn't know it was just a simple console command so I deleted my TF2 folder and everything. When I reinstalled the problem was still there, which I still can't figure out because with a fresh config the command (mat_bumpmap 1) should have been set to 1 by default. Keep fiddling with the console. In your case I guess it could be steam cloud, if it's recent enough.

It couldn't hurt to make thread on the steam forums I guess. By the way, the command mentioned earlier, "r_decals" is not boolean, it's the number of decals allowed to stay on objects. The default is 2048.

I can't make a thread about it on the steam forums, I need to be activated. =/
uhm.. k? No clue what that means. I can't make a thread about it on the steam forums, I need to be activated. =/
Sorry. It means that it's not an on/off command that can only be 1 or 0, but a command that stores a number for it's actual value. So, if r_decal is set to 1 it means you can only have 1 decal up and as soon as another one appears, it'll vanish. That means sprays, blood spatter, bullet holes.... It probably isn't the cause of your problem, but if I were you I'd set it back to 2048 ; )
Sorry. It means that it's not an on/off command that can only be 1 or 0.
Either way, it didn't do much. I'm not saying the effort is of no use, but... thanks. [editline]03:37PM[/editline] Seems after disabling "Sync with Steam Cloud" turned off, it works... Not sure what that'll do with my stats and shit... *shrug* OH WELL.
